Job Description

AECOM seeks an Electrical Engineer, Power Systems Analysis specializing in power system studies for grid-interconnected and islanded power generation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and executing comprehensive analytical studies that assess the performance and reliability of power systems.

For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding and extensive experience in electrical engineering, controls design, and power generation projects.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects
  • Serve as lead engineer on all size projects maintaining responsibility for deliverable development
  • Coordination with the electrical design team to direct completion of engineering drawings (one-line diagrams, protection & control schemes, settings files, and metering/SCADA integration requirements)
  • Perform steady-state and dynamic analyses, including load flow, short-circuit, contingency analysis, transient stability, frequency response, voltage stability, and motor starting.
  • Conduct protection and coordination studies, relay settings, arc flash assessments, and grounding studies in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support interconnection applications including generator and inverter-based resources
  • Execute islanded and microgrid analyses (black start, droop control, power-sharing, stability, protection, and resilience strategies).
  • Develop and validate models (PSSE/PSLF/DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, PSCAD) and prepare comprehensive study reports and presentations.
  • Evaluate and optimize solutions for renewables, battery energy storage, CHP, and conventional generation projects.
  • Home office and field support of projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, controls, civil/structural, and construction) to integrate study results into design packages.
  • Participate in project and client meetings
  • Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractors
  • Assist with internal and external presentations
  • Occasional travel to client and/or project sites

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
    • Relevant experience in mechanical engineering for power generation facilities

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
    • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering for power generation facilities
    • Experience in engineer and design of Combined Cycle Plants and Nuclear Generation Stations
    • Expert familiarity with industry codes and standards (IEC, NFPA, NERC CIP).
    • Experience with specifying electrical equipment and hardware
    • Startup and Commissioning Field Experience
    • Proficiency with power system modeling software packages: ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, PSSE, DIgSILENT Aspen, etc.
    • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, BIM 360)
    • Demonstrated experience in participating in complex, multi-discipline programs/projects
    • Successful experience working in remote and multi-discipline teams
