Job Description

• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced heavy water engineer, with expertise in deuterium oxide systems and specialized nuclear applications.

• Gathers and correlates heavy water engineering data using established procedures, including isotopic analysis, purity assessments, and system performance metrics.
• Works on detailed engineering assignments involving heavy water reactor calculations, tritium management, and specialized testing protocols.
• Proposes approaches to solve new heavy water engineering challenges using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
• Identifies discrepancies in heavy water system results and recommends corrective actions.
• Provides technical guidance to entry-level engineers on heavy water handling, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision, maintaining compliance with heavy water regulatory standards.
• Independently performs all tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for heavy water engineering works, including system optimization and safety analysis.
• Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional heavy water engineering position.

   

Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in water engineering, heavy water systems, or related nuclear engineering disciplines
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or SCE certification
• Demonstrated expertise in heavy water handling, deuterium oxide systems, and specialized nuclear applications
• Proven experience with isotopic analysis, purity assessments, and system performance evaluation
• Strong knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements for heavy water operations
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills for documentation and guidance

**Preferred Qualifications:**

• Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
• 15+ years of progressive experience in heavy water engineering or nuclear facility operations
• Experience with tritium management and specialized testing protocols
• Familiarity with reactor design calculations and safety analysis methodologies
• Track record of mentoring and developing junior engineering staff
• Experience managing projects within budget and schedule constraints
