Technical AEO Manager
The Role
As Technical AEO Manager, you own Aiven's visibility in AI answer engines. Developers and engineering leaders now find, compare and choose infrastructure through ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and AI Overviews more than through a results page. Your job is to make Aiven the answer they get, and to prove what that visibility delivers in signups, pipeline and revenue.
You know how LLMs retrieve, evaluate and cite content, and you build the measurement and content standards that win those citations. Your technical SEO background gives you the tools to diagnose and fix what stands in the way, but the goal you manage against is citations and recommendations, not rankings. You turn what you learn into action across marketing, product and sales.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role in our Revenue Marketing team, working daily with Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, Developer Relations, Docs and Web Engineering. You'll serve two audiences with different needs: developers and builders who want deep, accurate technical content, and engineering decision makers who want to understand why Aiven for cost, reliability and scale.
Key Responsibilities
- AI visibility measurement: Own how Aiven measures its presence in AI answers. Run Peec and Ahrefs for competitive visibility and citation tracking, maintain a curated set of high-intent prompts across both audiences, and build the custom analysis on top that platforms don't offer, such as product-alignment scoring, intent gap detection and task-completion checks.
- Commercial impact and reporting: Connect AI and organic visibility to product signups, trial activation, demo requests and sales-ready leads using Omni and Salesforce. Deliver a clear weekly report to marketing and sales leadership on what moved, why, and what we're doing about it, with attribution caveats stated plainly.
- Content structure and retrieval quality: Set the standard for how our blog, docs and product pages are structured to be retrieved and cited by LLMs: self-contained sections, consistent structured data and entity markup, aligned dates and authorship. Audit and prune existing content, identify gaps by prompt intent, and work with Product Marketing and DevRel to fill them.
- Technical SEO: Own the technical roadmap for aiven.io: crawlability, indexing, rendering, schema and site architecture. Find the issues, write tickets Web Engineering can act on.
- Agent journey insight: Identify where AI agents fail between recommending Aiven and completing a task through our docs, MCP server, CLI, Terraform provider or API. Quantify the impact and bring a prioritised case to Product.
- Third-party presence: Identify the external sources that drive citations in our categories (community forums, partner docs, review sites, independent tutorials) and work with DevRel, Partner Marketing and Communications to grow Aiven's footprint on them.
- Experimentation: Track changes in models, crawlers and AI search features. Run structured tests on content format, markup and delivery, document the results and roll out what works.
Ideal Candidate
- Proven AEO results: You have improved a B2B technology brand's visibility and citations in AI answer engines and can show the before, the after and what you did. We care about demonstrated results, not years with the label.
- Strong technical SEO foundation: Site crawls, JavaScript rendering, structured data and Schema.org, crawler and log analysis, and working with developers through well-written tickets and QA.
- You build your own analysis: Comfortable in Python and with LLM APIs. You've used embeddings, similarity scoring or automated audits to answer questions your tools couldn't, such as which content is actually aligned to product or where intent coverage is missing.
- Understand how LLMs retrieve and cite: Practical knowledge of chunking, RAG, entity signals, freshness and trust, and which content formats have stopped earning citations.
- Commercially fluent: Experience connecting organic performance to pipeline in a CRM and BI stack, and comfortable presenting to sales and marketing leaders. You can hold a line between what is proven and what is correlated.
- Clear communicator and collaborator: You share progress openly, build buy-in across product, engineering and marketing, and make it easy for others to act on your findings.
- Adaptable: The landscape shifts monthly. You experiment, learn and adjust without waiting for a playbook.
- Bonus: Experience in cloud, data or infrastructure companies; familiarity with Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch or ClickHouse; contributions to open source, developer tooling or technical documentation; experience directing agency partners.
