About Albus Health
Albus Health is a medical technology start-up that develops intelligent contactless monitoring systems that automatically monitor clinical symptoms at home. Our mission is to improve the lives of a billion people worldwide living with chronic conditions such as asthma and COPD.
Our combination of technical, clinical and commercial experts has allowed us to gain significant commercial traction in a relatively short time. Our solution is now in use by some of the world's most respected pharma companies, universities and hospitals, and we are preparing to scale up our research and operations in the UK and overseas.
Albus has partnerships with top hospitals in the UK and some of Europe's best clinicians. We have been running multiple carefully selected clinical studies and trials for several years and, as a result, have built up a wealth of data. This data is instrumental in advancing our technology and in extracting insights that could prevent emergencies and deaths for people with chronic conditions.
Albus spun out from the Department of Engineering and Respiratory Medicine at Oxford University in 2017 and has since won multiple awards (including the AI in Health and Care Award by the UK's Health Secretary and UK Research and Innovation). Albus is backed by multi-million-pound investment, and we are now expanding our technical team in Oxford to develop new products and solutions that can operate at a global scale.
You'll join a growing team of self-starting innovators and problem solvers, supported by leading academics and advisors. We place the highest value on engineering quality and always look for the most rigorous solution to a problem.
About the role
Our Albus Home device records patients overnight to capture possible symptoms of respiratory disease, such as coughs. The Albus web portal is used to manage these devices in the field, so it is critical that it works exactly as intended. As a Web-Portal Manual Tester, you will carry out manual test execution and evidence capture for the Albus web portal. No prior testing experience is required; we will train you in everything you need.
On a typical day, you will be given a set of approved, pre-defined test cases to work through, recording results accurately and raising any issues you find.
Who is this role aimed at?
This role is aimed at someone who wants to get a better understanding of medical technology, data and systems, and who values a flexible working environment. It is well suited to someone who is just getting started, wants to build their career from the ground up, or is looking for a career change.
Core responsibilities
- Work through step-by-step test cases that describe what to do, where to click and what the expected outcome should be.
- Whether the actual result matches the expected outcome and record the result with supporting evidence (screenshots or a clear written description).
- Record the software version, test environment and test-case ID with every result.
- Carry out manual tests that involve the web portal only, the web portal together with Albus Home hardware, and backend systems and device logs.
- Raise clear defect reports, including steps to reproduce, expected vs actual result, severity and supporting evidence.
- Re-test fixes once they have been resolved, and run regression tests on each new release.
- Follow Good Documentation Practice: record results at the time of testing, sign and date your records, and report any deviation from a test case rather than working around it.
Tools and systems you'll use
Full training is provided on all of the following:
- Albus Health's proprietary web portal and internal tools
- Web browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari
- AWS services used to view backend data and device logs
- Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Teams) for reporting and communication
Data protection and confidentiality
Our systems can contain sensitive health data, so we take data protection very seriously.
- Most testing is carried out in test environments using test or pseudonymised data.
- Any access to live systems is role-based, logged and granted only after you have completed data protection (UK GDPR) and information security training.
- You will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement and complete pre-engagement checks (right to work and references).
- Patient-identifiable information must never be included in screenshots or test reports.
How we measure success
We'll agree clear expectations with you during training, such as:
- Test cases completed per session
- Test records completed correctly first time
- Clarity and completeness of reports
Requirements
We firmly believe extraordinary people can come from a wide range of backgrounds, but we wouldn't be surprised if the person who gets this role:

- Can stay focused on repetitive tasks while keeping the quality of their work high.
- Is proactive, well organised and self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Has good written and spoken communication skills in English.
- Has high attention to detail, follows instructions and guidelines carefully, and isn't afraid to ask questions.
- Has basic computer skills, including Microsoft products (e.g. Word, Excel, Teams), and the drive to learn new skills quickly.
- Can carry out structured testing and write clear, accurate reports.
- Is comfortable handling confidential information with discretion and following strict access rules.
