Job Description

Company Overview

Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.

We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.

And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.

We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.

Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.

Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.

Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.

With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.

Join us in building the power foundation of the future!

About Amperesand

Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure systems for Data Centers, EV charging platforms, and future energy applications. Our systems combine advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and scalable energy architectures to rethink how power is converted, controlled, and deployed.

About the Role

Amperesand is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to join the Deployment team to own site integration success for Amperesand products from sales support through site design, installation and commissioning. The role demands expertise in industrial communications protocols (Modbus TCP, SunSpec, DNP3) and SCADA integration, paired with the ability to translate complex customer requirements into system configurations. Ideal candidates will have had experience defining successful power conversion product interactions/integrations spanning controls and firmware, and architecting reusable solutions that accelerate product deployment. This individual will also support Amperesand in investigating new product applications and markets, and will develop applications notes and whitepapers. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of hands-on experience with power conversion systems, strong command of electrical and communications system design, and technical communication skills needed to collaborate with customers, partners, EPCs, utilities, and field operations teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Own site integration success for Amperesand products from sales support through site design, installation and commissioning.
  • Ensure the success of controls, communications, and system integration between Amperesand products and neighboring electrical infrastructure and control systems.
  • Define, configure, test, and troubleshoot communications interfaces and protocols including Modbus TCP, SunSpec, DNP3, and related industrial and utility protocols.
  • Develop and maintain SCADA integration requirements, point maps, register maps, control interfaces, alarms, telemetry, and communications architecture.
  • Support integration with plant power controllers (PPCs), EMS, BMS, SCADA, PLCs, and other site-level control systems.
  • Interpret and construct single-line diagrams for electrical power systems and communications/control architectures to support site design, integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Design the commissioning procedure with partnership from the Service organization and drive continuous improvement in commissioning Amperesand product systems.
  • Provide on-site oversight for installation and commissioning of Amperesand products.
  • Partner with Product, Controls, Firmware, Electrical Engineering, Deployment, Service, EPCs, and customers to resolve application-specific technical issues and drive product improvements.
  • Develop reusable application guidance, reference architectures, interface specifications, and best practices that improve deployment speed and repeatability.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in applications engineering, controls, commissioning, systems integration, or deployment of power conversion or electrical infrastructure systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SCADA and industrial communications, including Modbus TCP, SunSpec, and DNP3.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and develop electrical and communications single-line diagrams and related system integration drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet/IP networking, TCP/IP, network architecture, addressing, routing, and communications troubleshooting in industrial environments.
  • Experience integrating equipment with plant controllers, EMS, BMS, SCADA, PLCs, or utility control systems.
  • Experience developing and validating point lists, register maps, control commands, alarms, telemetry, and communications interfaces.
  • Familiarity with grid-connected power systems, inverter controls, active/reactive power control, power factor, voltage regulation, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues spanning power electronics, controls, firmware, communications, networking, and site systems.
  • Strong customer-facing technical communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers, EPCs, utilities, integrators, and internal engineering teams.
  • Ability to travel to customer and project sites as required for technical oversight and integration support.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a startup.
  • Experience with grid-tied inverters, BESS, renewable generation, microgrids, EV charging, industrial power systems, or other MW-scale power electronics.
