Job Description

Angelicoussis Group, one of the world’s leading ship management organizations is looking for an experienced and motivated Crude Oil Market Analyst.

About the role

The Crude Oil Market Analyst will support commercial decision-making through rigorous quantitative analysis, market intelligence, and data-driven research.

The role combines crude oil market analysis, physical flow intelligence, quantitative modelling, and data automation. The successful candidate will build and maintain reliable market-data infrastructure, develop analytical tools to evaluate crude oil economics and trade flows, identify leading indicators and precursors of market movements, and forecast physical crude oil flows across key global trade routes. The role will also translate quantitative and qualitative information into actionable market views and commercial insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain reliable pipelines to programmatically extract, process, validate, and structure commercial market data, including crude oil price assessments, refining margins, differentials, and freight rates from providers such as S&P Global Commodity Insights using APIs, SDKs, and other data interfaces.

  • Develop quantitative models to evaluate crude oil arbitrage economics across global trade routes, decompose the key drivers of arbitrage opportunities, and assess their relationship with physical crude flows, vessel movements, refinery activity, and other relevant market indicators.

  • Identify leading indicators and precursors of changes in crude oil trade flows, and develop analytical frameworks to forecast physical crude movements across key global trade routes.

  • Engage with commercial counterparties, brokers, market participants, and other industry stakeholders to gather commodity market intelligence, challenge existing views, and identify emerging trends, opportunities, and risks.

  • Synthesize quantitative market data with qualitative intelligence, including shipbroker reports, market commentary, industry news, and other relevant sources to develop well-supported views on global crude oil markets, trade flows and commercial opportunities.

  • Design, automate, and maintain Excel-based reporting and analytical tools using Python and xlwings, and continuously improve data, modelling, research, and reporting workflows through automation and appropriate use of AI tools.

  • Prepare and deliver regular market reports and presentations, translating complex quantitative and qualitative analysis into clear, actionable insights for commercial stakeholders.

Candidate must have

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in Python, particularly for handling, transforming, analyzing, and automating structured market data.

  • Hands-on experience working with commercial data providers, APIs, SDKs, or other programmatic data interfaces.

  • Solid understanding of crude oil market fundamentals, including global pricing benchmarks, supply and demand dynamics, crude differentials, refining economics, and international trade flows, or a strong willingness and ability to learn these areas quickly. (nice to have but not mandatory)

  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex datasets into commercially relevant conclusions.

  • Strong Excel skills, including experience developing automated or model-driven reporting.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analytical findings clearly to commercial and non-technical senior stakeholders.

  • Practical experience using AI tools in data analysis, research, automation, or software development. This includes leveraging agentic AI platforms to automate multi-file data extraction, synthesis, and presentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience or exposure to crude oil markets, energy, shipping, maritime intelligence, or a related commercial environment.

  • Experience analyzing physical commodity flows, vessel movements, trade routes, or freight markets.

  • Familiarity with quantitative modelling, forecasting, or data analysis applied to commodity or energy markets.

  • Experience with commercial energy or maritime data platforms, such as S&P Global Commodity insights.

The Company offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, as well as career opportunities. All applications will be treated as strictly confidential.
