Job Description

The purpose of this role is to be accountable for the execution of the South African corporate property strategy, which has been aligned with key internal stakeholders and approved by ELT.  This is achieved by leading a team of specialists and support staff to provide efficient and effective Accommodation, Facilities,

Security, Catering, and Health & Safety services to Anglo American’s corporate functions and Businesses located at corporate offices in South Africa.   

The role is accountable for achieving and maintaining industry benchmark performance in Facilities Management by reference to operational excellence and project design & execution.  

• Formulate corporate real-estate strategies in South Africa and align proposals with key decision-makers.
• Lead a team of property and facilities specialists to implement approved corporate real estate strategies.
• Develop and deploy robust operational strategies, supported by maintenance strategies  to ensure seamless operations and a safe, productive corporate office environment.
• Safety and adherence to Company values and behaviours is paramount.
• Ensure adherance to best practices for property standards and governance related to capital projects.
• Prepare business plans and obtain approval for annual budgets.
• Accountable for the approved budget and management thereof in a responsible manner within the Group’s delegation of authority, including the deployment of systems and processes to authorise expenditure.
• Ensure key stakeholders in AASA and CEO’s remain informed on all property, security, SHE and external risks related matters.
• Identify and mange opportunities for improved cost management
• Develop and oversee the execution of the SA Corporate Offices Business Crisis Management (BCM) strategy.
• Collaborate with other Group Functions to plan and execute regular engagements with external stakeholders including corporate business partners, City of Johannesburg, and Local/Provincial government officials, to create and sustain an ecosystem of mutually beneficial partnerships.
• Provide leadership to, and develop the performance of the Facilities team in accordance with the Group’s policies and systems.
• Lead the full asset lifecycle management for assigned properties to meet standards and move toward best practices:
  • Developing and embedding facilities strategies to meet business expectations.
  • Formulating and executing sustainability plans.
  • Negotiation and management of contracts with Service Providers.
  • Leasing - negotiations with all AA and external tenants as may be required to ensure optimal building utilisation and landlord management.
  • Workplace strategy – including design specifications, office floorplans and layout, restacking of corporate offices to reflect evolving corporate requirements.
  • Effective Project Management (e.g. consolidations, upgrades, moves, closures). Oversee and drive the formulation and execution of projects (renovation, moves, space planning, contractors and respective budgeting / financial controls).
• Build and lead a highly skilled and robust security capability, covering all facets of security, capable of supporting security requirements of all in-scope properties and senior executives.
• Develop, deploy and maintain a robust security strategy and framework that supports all operational teams and ensures security investment is aligned to relevant risks
• Lead a local Security forum to ensure best practices and intelligence is shared with Businesses on an ongoing basis, and to provide co-ordination during times of security crisis
• Manage the governance of threat intelligence through the Corporate Security Support Centre (CSSC)

Qualifications

Experience 

• Commercially sound real estate strategies, opportunities and risk management.
• Landlord and leasing management.
• Building compliance, reporting, testing.
• Contract, contractor and supplier management.
• Business continuity planning / disaster recovery.
• Securities management – identifying, monitoring and mitigating security risks.
• Project management - including planning and design, execution and delivery, and evaluation.
• Comprehensive understanding of business drivers & levers.
• Commercial and business logic applied to decision-making to generate value.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a complex environment and work to deadlines.
• Expertise of, and ability to maintain compliance to standards (safety, health, environment, regulatory & financial) applicable to the role.
