Subscriptions & Closings Manager
About Belltower Fund Group:
Belltower is empowering world-changing fund investments.
Belltower was formed in 2019 as AngelList’s native fund administrator and completed its journey to become an independent company at the end of 2023. Belltower provides fund administration services to the venture space. Our coverage spans syndicates, venture funds, and first-of-their-kind rolling funds. Our full-service fund management offering streamlines the complexity of running a fund by integrating financial reporting, tax, compliance, portfolio management, and other services that managers typically have to cobble together from multiple vendors. Our services, combined with AngelList’s software, enable us to launch and scale a fund efficiently, allowing fund managers to focus on what they do best: investing.
Since 2019, Belltower has supported 27k+ funds representing over $25B in assets under administration, leveraging AngelList’s fund admin software to power the service layer for funds launched on the AngelList platform.
About the Role
The Subscriptions & Closings (S&C) team sits within GP Services and owns the moment a fund launches: getting SPVs and funds set up correctly, collecting investor subscriptions, closing capital, prorating commitments, and confirming closings so that capital can be deployed quickly. Every syndicate, venture fund, and rolling fund on the platform passes through this team, and the pace is high.
As the S&C Manager, you will lead this team day-to-day and be accountable for its output: fast and accurate fund launches, closings that happen on time, and a client experience that feels white-glove even at scale. This is a product-oriented role: you will work directly with GPs and institutional customers, partner with AngelList's Product and Engineering teams to ship product and process improvements, and work hand-in-hand with the Fund Formation team, whose workflows are tightly interwoven with yours. You will report to the Director of GP Services.
This role exists because S&C is where operational precision and client trust meet. The ideal candidate is a structured manager with strong customer service experience in private markets or fund administration, who knows how venture funds and SPVs take in capital and can catch the corner case every time. We are looking for someone who can run the team with rigor today while building the client-facing, product-minded, scalable processes that Belltower's growth in GP Services and our institutional offering will demand. You Will
Own
- Lead the S&C team: set priorities, run coverage and workload planning (including backup coverage when teammates are out), coach and develop team members, and hold the team to clear SLAs for setup accuracy and closing turnaround.
- Own end-to-end quality of fund and SPV setup, subscription review, proration, and closing confirmation, and act as the final escalation point when something is stuck or wrong, or presents a compliance/control risk (e.g., KYC/AML flags, sanctions screening, subscription document exceptions).
- Serve as the direct S&C point of contact for GPs and institutional customers, delivering a white-glove experience and translating their needs into product requirements and repeatable processes.
- Own the S&C playbooks and execution for institutional and traditional fund closings — side letters, capital call mechanics, multi-close and parallel-fund administration.
- Build and own the S&C playbooks needed for institutional fund closings (drawdown/capital-call administration, side-letter tracking, complex allocations) as a distinct workstream from syndicate/SPV closings.
- Own the control checkpoints in the setup-to-close workflow — KYC/AML/sanctions screening on subscriptions, segregation of duties between review and approval, and documentation sufficient to withstand audit — and drive root-cause remediation when exceptions occur.
- Identify, specify, and ship product and process improvements with AngelList's Product and Engineering teams, from proration and setup tooling to closing workflows, testing releases before they reach clients and documenting process changes for the team and adjacent teams.
Assist
- Contribute to the GP Services product roadmap by surfacing recurring client pain points and quantifying the operational cost of tooling gaps.
- Collaborate with Global Portfolio, Fund Services, Tax, and Compliance on cross-functional matters that touch subscriptions and closings.
- Support GP Services leadership on team design, hiring, and capacity planning as the institutional product grows.
What success looks like
- By 1 month: you understand the full setup-to-close lifecycle, know every open exception on the team's plate, and have taken over daily prioritization and escalations.
- By 3 months: closing turnaround and setup-accuracy targets are defined, measured, and being reported; recurring incident types have documented playbooks; the team has clear coverage plans. Control gaps in the closing process are identified and either remediated or have a documented mitigation plan.
- By 6 months: you have shipped at least one meaningful process or tooling improvement with Product and Engineering, and you are the recognized owner of the S&C client experience for our largest and most complex managers.
You Have
What you bring on day one
- 4+ years in fund administration, fund operations, or investor services within private markets, with direct hands-on experience in investor subscriptions, capital closings, and fund or SPV setup.
- Direct experience closing traditional closed-end/drawdown funds, including capital calls, side letters, and multi-close mechanics.
- Experience operating in a controls-conscious environment (audit, compliance, AML/KYC, or a regulated financial services setting) and comfort building or tightening control checkpoints in a high-volume process.
- Strong customer service experience serving GPs, LPs, or institutional clients in private markets or fund administration; you are comfortable owning a demanding relationship and communicating clearly under time pressure.
- 1+ years managing or leading a team, with a track record of coaching people and running a high-volume operational queue against SLAs.
- Working knowledge of venture fund structures (SPVs, traditional funds, rolling funds) and the documents that govern them, including subscription and purchase documents and side lettersWorking knowledge of venture fund structures (SPVs, rolling funds) and, specifically, traditional drawdown/closed-end fund mechanics — capital calls, multi-close administration, and side letters — along with the documents that govern them.
- A product mindset: you have turned recurring operational pain into a tooling or process change, and you know when a manual workaround is fine and when it needs a systemic fix.
- Both high EQ and strong systems-analytic skills: you can manage an external relationship in the morning and write a precise tooling requirement for Engineering in the afternoon.
- Experience in a rapidly scaling fintech or fund services environment, or the disposition to thrive amid rapid change.
