VP, Engineering, Network Observability

BlueCat is seeking a VP, Engineering, Network Observability to lead the engineering organization behind LiveAction, BlueCat's Network Observability product line. This leader will own the technical direction, architecture, delivery, and operational excellence of a complex, data-intensive platform that gives enterprises, telcos, and government agencies deep, predictive visibility into network health, performance, and behavior — from the data center and campus to the WAN, cloud, and edge. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role partnering closely with Product Management, Customer Care, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to ensure tight alignment between engineering execution, customer experience, and business outcomes. Experience We are looking for someone who has experience: Setting the technical direction and multi-year engineering roadmap for a network observability, network performance monitoring (NPM), or infrastructure monitoring product line Leading engineering teams that have delivered successful enterprise infrastructure products and services, both SaaS and on-prem Architecting and scaling data-intensive platforms that ingest, process, and analyze network telemetry — flow data (NetFlow/IPFIX/sFlow), SNMP, packet capture, synthetic testing, and streaming telemetry Delivering AI (ML, Generative, Agentic) capabilities for anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, and predictive insights that reduce mean-time-to-resolution Evolving long-lived code bases and developing a pragmatic go-forward plan to retire tech debt Building high-performing, geographically distributed engineering teams, including managing work transitions to offshore teams and multiple sites Coaching, mentoring, and developing top talent, including managers and senior technical leaders Establishing software development standards, processes, and best practices for the entire organization Developing strategic plans to accomplish technical and business objectives with Product Management, executive leadership, and your team members Engaging directly with enterprise and government strategic accounts to understand technical requirements and resolve escalations Required Qualifications MS/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields 15+ years of experience in a software engineering environment 10+ years managing senior individual contributors and other leads/managers, including leading managers of managers Direct experience building network observability, network performance monitoring, or network/infrastructure management products Strong technical fluency in networking fundamentals and telemetry (TCP/IP, routing/switching, NetFlow/IPFIX, SNMP, packet analysis, WAN/SD-WAN) and key open source technologies – e.g. clickhouse, Prometheus/Grafana, K8s Experience in delivering high performance hardware/appliances system for network telemetry/packets.  Strong experience and detailed technical knowledge in SaaS or PaaS engineering, as well as on-prem enterprise software delivery Strong development experience in Java, C++, or similar OO languages Experience operating at, or reporting directly to, the C-level Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience in a collaborative, agile development environment Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience developing services on a public cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle) Experience with high-throughput data pipelines and analytics (e.g., streaming, time-series, and large-scale storage technologies) Background in AIOps, machine learning for anomaly detection, or predictive analytics applied to network or IT operations Experience transitioning a product tech stack toward a more open-source, cloud-portable architecture Familiarity with government/public sector requirements (e.g., FedRAMP, StateRAMP, ATO processes) Post-acquisition technology integration experience Prior experience in a customer-facing technical role (e.g., sales engineering, professional services, support, product management) A mix of smaller-company (<$100M revenue) and larger-company (>$1B revenue) experience
