Senior Compliance Officer

What is this role about?

As our Senior Compliance Officer, you’ll play a key role in strengthening Bondora’s second-line compliance function as we expand our financial services business across Europe and prepare for our next stage as a bank. While we operate today as a credit provider, our banking licence application means the Compliance team is already working with broader regulatory topics and supervisory expectations that will shape Bondora’s future operating model.

You’ll work closely with management and product teams, with real ownership of regulatory change, compliance risk management, policy development, and supervisory communication. This role is well-suited to someone who wants to move beyond formal compliance checks and help build practical, scalable compliance processes in a fast-moving fintech environment.

We’re looking for someone who can build repeatable AI-assisted compliance processes, while applying professional judgment to validate accuracy, legal soundness, and regulatory defensibility.

Your main responsibilities:

• Monitoring regulatory developments and assessing their impact on Bondora’s products, processes, and controls.
• Maintaining and improving compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Conducting compliance risk assessments, second-line monitoring, and follow-up on remediation actions.
• Advising business, product, legal, and management teams on regulatory and compliance matters.
• Preparing compliance opinions, management updates, and practical recommendations.
• Supporting communication with supervisory authorities and coordinating regulatory responses.
• Developing compliance training and awareness materials for employees.

This role is in Estonia, and proficiency in Estonian is required. 

What would ensure success in this role?

Success in this role is determined by analytical expertise, process oversight, and data accuracy management. The ideal candidate will have:

• A Master’s degree in Law or an equivalent legal or regulatory background.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in compliance, financial services, legal or regulatory advisory, internal control, or financial-sector supervision.
• Strong knowledge of Estonian and EU financial services regulation, ideally with experience in consumer credit, fintech, banking, or credit providers.
• Ability to interpret laws, supervisory guidance, and regulatory expectations and turn them into practical business requirements.
• Hands-on experience drafting policies, procedures, compliance opinions, regulatory responses, and management-level summaries.
• Strong compliance risk assessment, monitoring, and control testing skills.
• Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, stakeholder management, prioritisation, and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal Estonian and English.
