This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the UK Health Hub and shape the strategic direction for occupational health, industrial hygiene, travel and expatriation health, public health, and workplace wellbeing across the UK businesses supported by the Hub!
Ensuring that businesses have effective, risk-based and compliant health arrangements that support safe, reliable operations and workforce health. Providing senior Health leadership for UK operations and the North Sea; acting as a strategic partner to business, HSE&C, P&C, International Mobility and Reward colleagues.
Leading the UK Health Hub team and the managed outsourced service model, the role holder will drive governance, assurance, performance management and continuous improvement, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, impactful health services across the business.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Lead the UK Health Hub and translate bp’s Health and HSE&C strategies into risk-based plans for UK businesses and the North Sea.
- Provide senior leadership and technical oversight across occupational health, industrial hygiene, travel and expatriation health, public health, wellbeing and medical emergency preparedness.
- Lead and assure the UK travel health and expatriation health portfolio, including higher-risk travel pathways, clinical service provision and alignment with global travel risk and medical-assistance arrangements.
- Act as the senior Health interface to International Mobility, Reward and relevant P&C teams on the health aspects of international assignments and complex assignment-related cases.
- Provide Health leadership and assurance for the North Sea, including fitness for work and task, offshore medical support, health risk management, emergency preparedness and applicable OMS procedures.
- Lead the identification and management of chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic and psychosocial health risks and ensure significant risks and actions are reflected in relevant business risk processes.
- Ensure health-related bp requirements, legal requirements and applicable industry standards are understood, implemented, assured and auditable.
- Provide assurance through monitoring, self-verification, performance review and oversight of health-related OMS requirements and controlled procedures.
- Lead the UK managed outsourced health-service model and act as Contract Accountable Manager where assigned.
- Define service requirements and lead all aspects of procurement interfaces, supplier performance, quality, targets, costs, issues, service development and contract renewals.
- Manage the Health Hub budget and annual planning process and ensure the efficient use of resources.
- Establish effective relationships with business and HSE&C leaders and maintain engagement to understand priorities, agree services and report performance.
- Use health, service and workforce data to identify trends, evaluate performance, support business decisions and drive improvement.
- Ensure effective health and medical arrangements are in place for incidents, emergencies, crisis response and business continuity.
- Manage the role’s direct reports and provide operational leadership more broadly, including objectives, performance, capability, development and succession.
- Represent bp Health with relevant regulators, industry bodies, professional networks, providers and other external partners.
- Promote a strong speak-up, care and safety culture and demonstrate bp’s leadership expectations and Code of Conduct.
- Provide coordination support to the UK/Regional Medical Director remit, including maintaining oversight of priorities, meetings and actions. Coordinate follow-up across relevant interested parties, with flexibility to support regional priorities beyond the UK Health Hub.
- Work flexibly across the Health Hub and regional priorities, adapting as the scope and priorities of the role are adjusted in response to changes in bp’s organisational structure and evolving business requirements.
Essential Education and Experience:
- A recognised qualification in occupational health, occupational medicine, industrial hygiene or public health.
- Substantial experience in occupational or workplace health, preferably within a complex industrial, energy or multinational organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of leading, coaching and managing multidisciplinary health services and teams.
- Experience of outsourced occupational health services, contract governance and supplier performance management.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health risk management, health assurance, regulatory compliance and management systems.
- Strong business partnering, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to work across Health, HSE&C, P&C, International Mobility, Reward, procurement and operational leadership.
- Ability to interpret health and service data and convert it into practical priorities and business decisions.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of travel or expatriation health and support to internationally mobile workforces.
- Experience of operational or offshore health support.
- Experience within the energy sector or another safety-critical industry.
