Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer
About Brelle
Energy for what moves us.
Brelle is a venture-backed technology company building the next generation of energy and powertrain systems for the world’s most demanding machines. Our team comes from companies like Rivian, SpaceX, and McLaren, bringing deep expertise in high-performance engineering, electrification, and advanced manufacturing.
Brelle develops frontier technology that pushes what’s possible in electrified performance. Based in California, we develop next-generation energy and powertrain technology for supercars and superbikes, working alongside leading high-performance brands across the U.S. and Europe.
Our innovations are built on a novel pack architecture, a full-stack software platform, and an advanced approach to automated production. Joining Brelle means working on technology that makes the world’s most demanding vehicles and aircraft lighter, safer, more engaging, and capable of charging in minutes.
Our engineering teams operate like small Skunkworks teams: nimble, cross-functional, and highly technical. Engineers are encouraged to explore new concepts and materials, move quickly from concept to prototype, and have significant autonomy to develop, validate, and release their work across programs.
We’re building something ambitious in a highly competitive market, and the bar is high. We need people who are exceptional at what they do, take real ownership, and are willing to do what the moment requires.
About the Role
As a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer, you'll be a core technical owner of Brelle's embedded platform—the software foundation powering our vehicle architecture and ECUs.
You'll work across the embedded stack, from RTOS and low-level drivers through diagnostics, communication protocols, and platform architecture. You'll work closely with electrical, battery, systems, and vehicle teams to bring ECUs from first power-on through validation and into real superbike and supercar programs.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You'll be expected to make architectural decisions, get into the hardware when things don't work, and drive problems through to production.
What You'll Do
Develop and release production-grade firmware in C/C++ for MCU peripherals and external components including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN/CAN-FD, ADC, DMA, and timers
Architect clean abstractions across RTOS, drivers, middleware, and application layers
Lead ECU bring-up from first power-on through validation
Develop production-grade diagnostics and vehicle communication including UDS, CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet, and LIN
Shape the structure and evolution of Brelle's embedded codebase, build systems, CI/CD, and development tooling
Work hands-on with hardware in the lab and with vehicle teams during integration and validation
Help establish engineering practices that allow us to move quickly without compromising reliability or safety
Mentor other engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, and collaboration
What We're Looking For
5+ years developing production firmware in C/C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Deep understanding of RTOS concepts, concurrency, memory management, and real-time constraints
Strong experience with MCU peripherals, device drivers, and hardware/firmware debugging
Expert with Git, build systems, and CI/CD
Experience taking embedded software from development through validation and production
A track record of owning technically complex problems and driving them through to completion
Preferred Qualifications
Automotive, motorsport, powersports, aerospace, robotics, or other safety-critical experience
AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, or ASPICE
FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS, or other RTOS experience
NXP MCUs, toolchains, and SDKs
ECU development from bring-up through production
How We Work
Understand the Problem
We take the time to understand what we're actually solving before jumping to the obvious answer.
Own What Needs to Happen
We take responsibility for outcomes, not just our individual tasks. If something needs to happen, we figure out how to make it happen.
Optimize for the Team
We make decisions with the broader team and company in mind, sharing information and helping each other move faster.
Refuse the Obvious Answer
We challenge assumptions, explore better approaches, and don't accept "that's how it's always been done."
Keep Your Word
We do what we say we'll do. We communicate early when something changes and hold ourselves accountable to our commitments.
