Porter Position - The Highland

Job Description

The Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and presentable building environment for residents, guests, employees, and visitors. This role performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties, supports the front lobby and common areas, removes trash, restocks supplies, and responds to cleaning or maintenance needs throughout the property.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and carpets throughout the building.

  • Clean and maintain restrooms, common areas, and other designated spaces.

  • Dust and clean ceiling vents and other building surfaces as needed.

  • Ensure building entrances, lobbies, hallways, and common areas remain clean, organized, and free of clutter.

  • Remove and dispose of trash and recycling in accordance with building procedures.

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and addressing basic building needs.

  • Report damages, maintenance concerns, and safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Contact outside technicians or vendors when necessary and monitor repairs as directed.

  • Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning and building supplies and notify management when supplies need to be replenished.

  • Place appropriate safety and hazard signs, including wet floor and wet paint signs, when necessary.

  • Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other cleaning emergencies.

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in compliance with company policies and health and safety regulations.

  • Follow all building emergency procedures and evacuation protocols.

  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to residents, guests, visitors, vendors, and building staff as needed.

  • Perform other cleaning, porter, and building-related duties as assigned.

  • Previous experience as a Porter, Janitor, Custodian, or in a similar building services role preferred.

  • Experience using commercial or industrial cleaning equipment.

  • Ability to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and attention to detail.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, and lift 40+ pounds throughout the workday.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Familiarity with basic building safety and security procedures.

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Reliable, punctual, professional, and dependable.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, evenings, holidays, or shifts as required.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and wear the company-provided uniform while on duty.
