The Back Up Class A CDL Driver helps as a back-up driver when primary driver is on vacation or absent. When covering, the driver will move trailers around our facility in Nappanee, IN. During the off time, the Back Up Class A CDL Driver will assist the production area by moving trailers in and out of the docks, loading/unloading trailers as necessary and responsible for deliveries made to and from the receiving area via forklift and pallet jack, stacking of all parts, and cleanliness of the area.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Driving
- Communicating with Logistics to coordinate movements.
- Band and wrap product
- Load and unload trucks
- Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle/trailer
- Ability to drive a semi and a box truck
- Maintaining a detailed log of working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Ensuring any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
- Report on any damages to Sr Logistics manager
- Complying with truck driving rules and regulations
- Reporting defects, accidents and violations
- Performing daily maintenance of trucks and trailers (refueling, cleaning, etc.)
- Loading and unloading truck with forklift, pallet jacks, dolly
- Interact with customers and vendors in professional manner
- Perform pre-and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Recording cargo deliveries
- When applicable, get signatures on bill of lading
- Job duties are subject changes depending on need
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Must have a valid Class A CDL
- Ability to drive a forklift
- Operate a pallet jack/dolly
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Due to the physical demands of this job, it is essential that correct lifting techniques, proper body mechanics, as well as applicable safe work practices be utilized
