About the Role

Chefman / CHEF iQ | Mahwah, NJ | Onsite, five days a week

As Chefman's connected appliance portfolio grows, we are looking for a hands-on Test Technician to support our firmware team's testing lab. You will work closely with a senior team member, reviewing testing requests from Product Managers and UX/UI teams, setting up equipment, and collecting the data our engineers need to validate product performance. Some exposure to firmware is helpful. We will train you on our equipment, firmware testing, and processes.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Review testing requests from Product Managers and UX/UI teams, typically provided in Excel, to determine what needs to be tested next and prioritize accordingly
  • Set up test equipment for each testing scenario, including data loggers and thermocouples
  • Attach thermocouples correctly to measure temperature at specified points on appliances and circuit boards
  • Collect, record, and organize temperature and performance data using data logging equipment
  • Load and verify firmware versions on devices, and record the firmware version used in each test
  • Support firmware testing by checking that devices behave as expected after a firmware update, and reporting any differences
  • Test Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity features on connected devices
  • Monitor iOS and Android platform updates and flag anything that could affect how our products connect or perform
  • Write clear, organized reports summarizing test results for Product Managers, UX/UI teams, and engineering
  • Log and track issues clearly in Jira, including steps to reproduce, firmware version, and relevant supporting data
  • Maintain the physical test lab, keeping equipment calibrated, organized, and ready for the next test cycle

Physical Demands and Abilities

  • Working at a computer and in a lab or testing environment
  • Comfortable handling small electronic components and test equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the testing team, Product Managers, and UX/UI teams

Education, Experience and Skills

  • No prior lab or QA experience required. Training will be provided.
  • Some exposure to firmware is a plus, such as installing firmware or software updates on a device, or working with microcontrollers (for example Arduino) in coursework, projects, or work
  • Engineering background is a plus but not required
  • Comfortable working with basic electronics and small components; familiarity with circuit boards is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when following test setup instructions precisely
  • Comfortable reading and working from Excel-based instructions
  • Able to write clear, organized test result reports
  • Willing to learn tools like Jira, data logging software, and mobile app simulators
  • Operates well under a sense of urgency and stays calm under pressure
  • Able to manage multiple testing tasks at once and follow them through to completion

Salary Range (commensurate with experience)
$50,000—$60,000 USD
