IT Manager
About Clerkie
Clerkie is a fintech startup on a mission to democratize financial wellness using the power of artificial intelligence. Launched in 2018, Clerkie began with an app, aiming to help the nearly 123 million underserved Americans in need of financial guidance. Since its inception, the company has expanded its services and now pairs consumer guidance with cutting-edge B2B software. By pairing the two through the Clerkie network, these tools have become the go-to resource for creditors looking to manage loan losses while simultaneously helping millions of borrowers get out of debt.
Clerkie is a remote-first company, with over 40 employees spanning 4 time zones across the United States. To date, the company has raised $41 million, including a $33 million Series A round in early 2023. Investors include leading financial and venture institutions, including Citi Ventures, Left Lane Capital, Wellington Ventures, Flourish Ventures, and Vestigo Ventures.
About the role
We're looking for a part-time IT Manager to own the day-to-day IT needs of our growing team and help us continue building a secure, scalable IT foundation. This is a hands-on role for someone who knows startup IT and likes owning the work. You'll support onboarding and offboarding, administer our devices and IT tooling, troubleshoot employee needs, coordinate with our security team and vendors, and make sure the small things don't become big things. The ideal candidate is one who thrives with minimal guidance and has a bias to identify and solve problems proactively.
We anticipate approximately 8 - 10 hours per week of ongoing support, with opportunities for additional project-based work as needs arise. We're remote-first and US-based, with an office in San Francisco. We'll prioritise candidates in the Bay Area who are able and interested in providing occasional onsite support. As Clerkie grows, there's room for the scope of this role to grow with us. If the work eventually warrants a larger commitment, we're open to revisiting the structure of the role.
Own our day-to-day IT operations
- Own employee IT onboarding and offboarding, including devices, access and account provisioning
- Administer and support our majority Mac fleet and device management environment
- Troubleshoot day-to-day employee IT issues and close the loop without requiring heavy internal coordination
- Manage routine IT administration across our core systems and tooling
- Maintain clean, reliable IT processes and documentation
- Coordinate directly with vendors and external partners when support or escalation is needed
Help us maintain a secure, scalable IT environment
- Partner with our Security team to administer and maintain our endpoint security and DNS tooling
- Support our MDM environment and help lead our upcoming MDM migration
- Keep devices properly enrolled, configured, patched, and compliant
- Support IT requirements related to SOC 2 and our broader security program
- Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities before they become problems
- Help evaluate and implement new IT tools and partners as our needs evolve
Jump into project work when we need it
Our ongoing IT needs are intentionally lean. From time to time we'll have larger projects where we'd love your expertise, whether that's an MDM migration, rolling out new tooling, evaluating a vendor, or helping us rethink part of our IT stack. We'll scope those projects separately based on the work required.
Who you are
- You've done startup IT before. You're comfortable supporting a small, fast-moving company where there isn't a giant IT department or a ticket for every little thing.
- Hands-on + autonomous. You don't just advise. You log in, troubleshoot the problem, configure the tool, talk to the vendor and get the work across the finish line.
- Mac fluent. You're comfortable managing a predominantly Mac environment and have experience with Mac MDMs, Apple Business Manager, and modern endpoint management.
- Security minded. You understand how IT operations connect to endpoint security, access management and compliance, and know when to pull in specialised security expertise.
- Great with humans. You can help someone who can't get into their laptop just as comfortably as you can talk through an IT decision with our Security or Leadership teams.
- High judgement, low ego. You know what good looks like, raise concerns early and don't over-engineer solutions for a 40-person company.
Experience supporting early-stage or Series A/B startups is strongly preferred. Familiarity with tools like Iru, ThreatDown, Google Workspace and Vanta is helpful, though we care more about your ability to quickly understand and independently operate a modern startup IT environment.
The TLDR
- $75 - $100 / hour, depending on experience
- Approximately 8 - 10 hours / week, with additional project-based work as needed
- Part-time, hourly engagement
- US-based
- Remote-first, with preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area who can provide occasional onsite support
- Company laptop provided
- Opportunity for the role to grow in scope as Clerkie scales
