Job Description
The County of Grande Prairie is seeking a collaborative and motivated Supervisor, Parks (temporary 6-months contract with a possibility of extension) to lead the operations, maintenance, and development of County parks, campgrounds, playgrounds, and open spaces. This position plays a key role in ensuring County residents and visitors enjoy safe, welcoming, and well-maintained outdoor recreational spaces while leading a dedicated team of Park Hosts, seasonal staff, and volunteers.
Reporting to the Director, Recreation and Culture, you will be responsible for supervising park and campground operations, supporting staff, managing projects and contracts, and helping shape the future of recreation infrastructure and services throughout the County.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, coach, and supervise Park Hosts and seasonal staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, service excellence, and workplace safety.
- Coordinate Park Host meetings and support volunteer engagement initiatives.
Parks & Campground Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of County parks and campgrounds.
- Address public inquiries and customer concerns in a professional manner.
- Identify opportunities to improve services, operational efficiency, and visitor experiences.
- Support emergency preparedness efforts in collaboration with internal departments and community partners.
- Inspect playgrounds and contribute to park development and infrastructure projects.
- Assist with snow removal and ice mitigation.
Project & Contract Management
- Coordinate park and campground development projects.
- Assist with capital planning, budgeting, procurement, and contract administration.
- Work with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered effectively and in accordance with County standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Support the development and monitoring of operating and capital budgets.
- Maintain inventories of County park assets and equipment.
- Prepare reports, recommendations, and operational plans.
- Participate in Recreation and Culture initiatives, events, and team activities.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Recreation, Parks Management, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in a parks, recreation, or related operational environment.
- Three to five years of supervisory experience.
- Sound knowledge of park operations, maintenance practices, and budget management.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Ability to obtain acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
Assets
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) designation.
- Park planning experience.
- Experience organizing special events.
- Experience with playground inspections, equipment operation, maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Campground operations experience.
Additional Information
Weekly Hours: This position works 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.
Pay Rate: $52.52 to $61.79 an hour.
