If you're passionate about leadership, empowering teams, have a keen interest in technology and coding is considered as one of your energy pipelines, this role is tailored for you.
About the role
Be part of the movement - and play your part.
At DFDS, we’ve innovated our Technology and Innovation Division to adopt a matrix organization rooted in Tribes and Chapters. A Tribe at DFDS consists of cross-functional teams with a shared mission, fostering collaboration, and focusing on the fulfilment of the business needs. Meanwhile, Chapters are expert communities spanning Teams and sometimes Tribes, promoting best practices, knowledge-sharing and skill development to benefit the entire organization.
As a Software Engineering Chapter Lead in the Logistics Tribe, you will help shape how we build software at DFDS. You will combine people leadership, technical leadership and hands-on engineering to grow our engineering capabilities and deliver business value.
You will work closely with the Software Engineering Area Lead, other Chapter Leads and Tribe Leadership to build strong engineering practices across our development organization.
Your focus will be on four key areas:
People & Chapter Leadership: Lead and develop a chapter of 5–9 software engineers. Hire great people, set clear goals, coach and mentor, support career growth, and build a high-performing and inclusive engineering culture.
Technical Leadership & Craft: Drive engineering excellence, coding standards, architecture, quality and modern development practices. Stay curious about emerging technologies and help turn them into practical improvements for our teams.
Hands-on Engineering & AI: Stay close to the technology by contributing to agile teams and solving real engineering challenges. Champion modern developer tooling, including AI-assisted development, code quality and developer productivity tools.
Business & Stakeholder Leadership: Partner with Tribe Leadership, Product and other stakeholders to ensure we have the right engineering capabilities, technical direction and delivery plans. Identify dependencies, remove obstacles and help teams deliver meaningful business outcomes.
About you
We are looking for an experienced software engineer and people leader who enjoys developing both people and technology. We think the strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity. Contrasting opinions, varied skills and strong characters bring out the best in us all. With this in mind, we imagine you bring:
Proven leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring and developing high-performing engineering teams.
Strong software engineering expertise and a solid understanding of modern software development, architecture and engineering practices.
A hands-on mindset and the ability to balance technical contribution with leadership responsibilities.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product teams, business stakeholders and leadership.
A passion for continuous learning, engineering excellence and emerging technology.
Experience with or a strong interest in AI-assisted software engineering and modern AI developer tools, and an understanding of how AI can improve engineering productivity and quality.
To gain a better understanding of what it's like to work as a Software Engineer Chapter Lead at DFDS, here's what one of our Chapter Leads says:
“Being a Chapter Lead at DFDS is a dual role, with never a dull moment. I get to be a "doer", developing increments of our products and being part of a highly autonomous and self-organizing team. At the same time, I have the opportunity to guide and help develop a group of talented software engineers in their journey towards becoming masters of their craft, while bringing value to the customers. It's an exciting role.”
- Ana, Software Engineering Chapter Lead
