Job Description

About the Team

DoorDash is looking for an experienced Manager, Tax Technology to lead the offshore Vertex & ERP Integrations Center of Excellence (CoE) within our growing Tax Team. The tax engine (Vertex) calculates the correct sales tax and VAT on every order across the DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo platforms, and this role owns the deep technical expertise that keeps that engine accurate.

As DoorDash continues to grow its global footprint across multiple business lines, we are looking for a candidate with hands-on experience implementing, configuring, and maintaining indirect tax engines, with the integration to ERP systems on both AR and AP sides, who can also lead and develop a team of configuration and testing specialists. You will be the central technical authority the rest of the platform team relies on, blending technical indirect tax knowledge, tax-engine experience, and people leadership.

About the Role

You will report to the Senior Manager of the Tax Calculation Platform & Mx Operations and lead the offshore Center of Excellence — the hub of Vertex configuration, automated testing, and tax-content maintenance. You will set technical standards, oversee the work of Associate Managers, and serve as the senior point of escalation for complex configuration and testing issues.

The primary focus of this position is end-to-end tax engine solutions for sales and use taxes, food and beverage taxes and fees, gross receipts taxes, and VAT — ensuring the correct tax is calculated on every product, fee, and country before anything goes live.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Own the technical configuration of Vertex — tax drivers, taxability mappings, custom rules, and jurisdiction logic — and lead configuration design for high-complexity initiatives.
  • Lead and develop the offshore CoE team, allocating workload, establishing QA checkpoints, and providing structured knowledge transfer on complex processes.
  • Design, standardize, and enhance the automated tax testing framework across all phases (unit, integration, E2E, shadow, regression and post-launch).
  • Serve as the senior point of escalation for defects found during testing and provide the go-live technical recommendation for production releases.
  • Partner with Vertex to understand updates to product offerings, tax engine technical Q&A, and manage Vertex support tickets.
  • Oversee monthly Vertex content review, quarterly Vertex service releases and validation and maintain the integrity of the fallback system.
  • Own the overall Vertex governance framework and provide cross-functional access and review to other tax teams (e.g. Tax Advisory and Planning Team).
  • Provide technical impact assessments for new business initiatives, new verticals, engine migrations, and integrations.
  • Own the ERP-to-Vertex integration (e.g. Oracle NetSuite), ensuring transactions flow correctly from upstream ERP systems and calculated tax flows into finance systems (NetSuite) and downstream reporting.
  • Partner with cross functional teams and translate business and tax requirements into system logic, and review BRDs, PRDs, and TDDs for tax-system implications.

We’re excited about you because…

  • You have 8+ years of experience in a corporate tax department, public accounting, or technology consulting firm, or other related experience, including hands-on indirect tax technology work.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and configuring Vertex O Series (on-premise, on-demand and/or Edge), including tax drivers, taxability mappings, and custom rules.
  • Hands-on experience integrating Vertex O Series with an ERP system (Oracle NetSuite or similar), with the depth to lead ERP-to-Vertex projects directly.
  • Experience with global Vertex implementation across US indirect tax and global VAT regimes
  • Experience with indirect taxes in the US and familiarity with other countries' indirect tax regimes (including VAT).
  • Experience with cross functional collaboration with tax and non-tax teams (including but not limited to tax advisory and planning, engineering, product, tax compliance, business stakeholders) and translate business and tax requirements into Vertex functional requirements and design.
  • Demonstrated people-leadership or team-lead experience, including coaching, workload delegation, and quality oversight.
  • Project management experience, including creation of project plans, milestones, timelines, and tracking of deliverables and risks.
  • Strong system testing experience and the ability to design and govern a structured testing framework.
  • Experience in use of API testing tools like Postman, SOAP UI and ability to read XML and JSON logs
  • Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or Computer Science degree.
  • You are fluent in leveraging multiple AI tools on the market (e.g., Claude Cowork, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor) on a daily basis across all of your assigned tasks, and you actively look for creative ways to apply them to enhance processes and create efficiency gains.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with Alteryx, Snowflake, SQL and data reconciliation tools.
  • Vertex Certified Implementer certification
  • Marketplace Facilitator laws
  • Vertex Edge
