Job Description

Job Description:

Israel Correspondent, Tel Aviv

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced, enterprising reporter to cover Israel and its evolving impact on the Middle East from our bureau in Tel Aviv. It’s an opening to write about a country in significant transition, with enormous military power and intelligence capabilities that are reshaping the region but with a deeply divided body politic still wrestling with fundamental questions of the country’s direction.

This is an opportunity to be part of a hard-working team that is prized for scoops, deeply reported stories and investigations, and smart coverage of developments in the world’s busiest news environment. The security environment is a major focus with Israel at the center of the Middle East's many conflicts, but we are also interested in the country’s internal tensions as well as its role shaping geopolitical, social and economic changes in the region.

We’re looking for a well-sourced and driven reporter who can see Israel from multiple perspectives. You should be someone able to think fast and write with accuracy and flair to get nuanced analyses and hard-hitting revelations in front of our readers.

 You will:

-Work with a team of top-flight reporters around the Middle East to tell the story of a country and region in transition

-Break news that separates your work from the pack by uncovering important, unreported details and drivers of major events

-Produce deeply reported work that starts conversations and sets agendas, that identifies you as a must-read on Israel

-Contribute to a busy bureau’s coverage of some of the world’s most interesting and important news across the Middle East

You have:

-A track record of strong, enterprising stories and scoops that distinguish your coverage of a beat

-The ability to spot stories and generate a constantly refreshed lineup of achievable work

-Strong sourcing habits including the ability to refresh and expand your source base as conditions change

-The ambition to aim for the highest impact work via excellent writing skills and impeccable reporting and accuracy

-The ability to flourish in a team environment with similarly ambitious people

The position is based in Tel Aviv and will report to the Middle East editor.

To apply:

Please submit a resume, cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and examples of your work by Sept. 30. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and we encourage early submission, as the position may be filled before the deadline.

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
