Safety Manager - Natural Gas, Power Generation & BESS
Build the Future with Us — EquipmentShare is Hiring a Safety Manager - Natural Gas, Power Generation & BESS
At EquipmentShare, we’re not just filling a role — we’re assembling the best team on the planet to build something that’s never been built before. We’re on a mission to transform an industry that’s been stuck in the past by empowering contractors and communities through innovative technology, real-time support, and a team that truly cares.
We’re hiring a Safety Manager - Natural Gas, Power Generation & BESS at our Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MO, and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to grow with us, bring energy and drive to their work, and help us build the future of construction. This position is fully remote.
The Safety Manager will oversee all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for a power generation facility utilizing natural gas power generation assets and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position manages the combined risks of traditional thermal power generation and advanced energy storage technology. The ideal candidate will manage high-risk operations—such as high-pressure gas lines, power generation machinery, and high-voltage chemical energy systems—while enforcing strict compliance with OSHA, EPA, and NFPA standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage site risks by balancing natural gas power generation hazards with the chemical, electrical, and thermal risks inherent to BESS infrastructure.
- Enforce rigorous site compliance for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical energy isolation, confined spaces, and NFPA 70E electrical safety boundaries.
- Maintain specialized safety standards, including NFPA 855 for stationary energy storage and OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) for gas systems.
- Develop, audit, and update emergency response plans tailored to BESS fire suppression, toxic gas release, and thermal runaway mitigation.
- Conduct routine site walkthroughs and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) on natural gas generation equipment, gas supply piping, and battery cell enclosures.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for near-misses, equipment failures, or injuries, ensuring immediate corrective actions are institutionalized.
- Lead daily toolbox talks, manage sub-contractor safety compliance, and conduct specialized training on lithium-ion battery hazards and gas system safety.
