What’s the role?

Etsy's Global Risk & Compliance team is responsible for overseeing a diverse and evolving regulatory landscape straddling the financial services, payments and ecommerce/technology sectors. We are looking for an experienced EU Risk & Compliance Manager to join us in Dublin, supporting two of our highest-priority compliance domains: AML/CFT oversight for our EEA regulated payments subsidiary and data protection compliance for our European entities. 

This position, based in Dublin, is a “second line of defence” role and will focus in particular on supporting the Global Risk & Compliance team in overseeing anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing compliance and data protection compliance to meet Irish and EU regulatory requirements and expectations. This will be a broad, varied role working with multiple business stakeholders and legal partner teams across Etsy, including business risk owners, group compliance and legal functions and internal audit.

We are looking for someone who can work in an extremely fast paced and dynamic environment, who can provide strong guidance and practical advice to a wide range of partners and who has an interest in learning and growing their career in dynamic, evolving regulatory environments. You must be comfortable explaining complex regulatory compliance matters succinctly and be capable of tailoring compliance practices to the company’s business and operating model. 

This is a full-time position reporting to Etsy’s Global Head of Risk & Compliance, based in Ireland.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

You'll be joining a small, senior team where your judgement shapes real business decisions and your work is visible directly to the Board. We operate across a Central Bank of Ireland (“CBI”) regulated payments entity and a marketplace, in one of the most dynamic regulatory environments in the market. This is a team that thinks seriously about where compliance is going — and actively builds toward it.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Support maintenance of EPIL’s compliance universe of applicable legal and regulatory requirements and keep up to date with upstream regulatory developments to ensure new legal and regulatory requirements are assessed and implemented;

• Support management of EPIL’s second line of defence compliance related policies, covering areas including, inter alia, payment services, AML/CFT, fitness and probity, consumer protection and conduct of business requirements;  

• Support the execution of a risk-based compliance monitoring plan, which is approved by the Board, and which ensures periodic and regular monitoring and testing of EPIL’s compliance with key regulatory requirements and expectations; 

• Support periodic compliance & AML risk and control assessments of the business as well as management of periodic data and trend analysis;

• Support the submission of regulatory returns, including Risk Evaluation Questionnaire (“REQ”);

• Ensure that suspicious transactions are reported to An Garda Siochana and to the Irish Revenue Commissioners as soon as practicable and ensure suspicious transactions are managed in accordance with legal and regulatory obligations;

• Be a key participant in the Financial Crimes Working Group, ensuring EPIL requirements are embedded within Etsy’s approach to financial crime;

• Attend EPIL’s Compliance, Operations, Risk Executive (CORE) committee;

• Assist in developing reports to the Board on a quarterly basis, including on the overall regulatory and AML/CFT profile of EPIL, any known risk exposures, and other key updates relevant to regulatory compliance and AML/CFT.

Data Protection: 

• Support the EU Data Protection Officer (DPO) in fulfilling its compliance oversight responsibilities;

• Overseeing the compilation and analysis of key data protection metrics and Etsy’s records of processing activity (‘RoPA”) to understand risks and trends over time;

• Support periodic enterprise data protection risk & control assessments for Etsy’s European entities;  and

• Assist in developing reports to Etsy’s EU subsidiary Board’s on a quarterly basis, covering data protection. 

• ​Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 5+ years of experience in a compliance or regulatory function within a regulated financial services entity, FinTech, or payments institution; 

• Experience working in a compliance function, preferably within a regulated financial services or Fintech company entity or experience in consulting;

• Strong technical expertise in AML/CFT compliance and/or data protection - ideally with working familiarity in both - and a genuine appetite to develop depth in whichever area is newer to you;

• Curiosity about and practical experience with AI tools - you don't need to be an expert, but you should be excited about use of AI in a compliance context;

• Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams in a matrix organisation (including cross border);

• Relevant professional qualifications or equivalent work experience;

• A trust in and commitment to Etsy’s vision, mission and values; and

• Fluent in written and spoken English.

The EU Risk & Compliance Manager is a Control Function (“CF”) under the Fitness & Probity Regime in Ireland. 

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.

Location

We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Dublin Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office. Salary Range:

€73,000.00 - €95,000.00
