Te Tūranga – About the role    

We’re looking for an experienced Principal Security Engineer to help shape how security is designed, engineered and delivered across our organisation. 

This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who can move confidently between architecture and hands-on engineering. You’ll help shape security engineering at enterprise scale, defining work engineering standards and reusable patterns, guiding complex technical decisions, and partnering with engineers, architects and product teams to solve some of our most challenging security problems. 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to: 

• Shape security engineering standards, patterns and technical direction across the organisation. 

• Bridge architecture and implementation, turning strategic direction into practical, secure engineering solutions. 

• Work hands-on with engineers and architects to solve complex security challenges and enable secure-by-design delivery. 

• Influence security at enterprise scale, while staying closely connected to the technology. 

• Strengthen operational resilience and security capability, helping teams deliver secure services with greater confidence. 

• Operate with a high level of autonomy and influence, providing trusted technical leadership across security, engineering and architecture.

 He kōrero mōu - About you      

• 10+ years’ security experience, with significant experience at Lead or Principal level in complex enterprise environments. 

• Deep expertise across security engineering and architecture, including identity, cloud/platform, network and endpoint security, data protection, vulnerability management and secrets. 

• Strong multi-cloud security experience across Azure, AWS and GCP, with hands-on capability in secure configuration, policy-as-code and pipeline security. 

• Strong detection and response engineering experience, including SIEM/SOAR, threat detection, monitoring and security automation. 

• Practical knowledge of security frameworks and regulated environments, including MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls and PCI. 

• Strong automation and engineering capability, using technologies such as Python, Bash or PowerShell and modern Git-based delivery practices. 

• Proven ability to set technical direction and influence major security decisions, while remaining pragmatic and hands-on. 

• A strong communicator and trusted technical leader, comfortable influencing across engineering, architecture, product and senior stakeholders. 

• Experience supporting business-critical, 24x7 services and providing senior technical leadership when it matters most. 

CISSP, CCSP, SC-100, GDSA or equivalent certifications are desirable, but deep technical capability and experience matter most.
