Senior Engine Programmer
Company Description
Job Description
Main challenge
We're launching preproduction on a new project built on Unreal Engine. Your role: be the person who can dive deep under the hood of the engine to understand why something isn't working — and the one who sets the best practices so the whole team gets the most out of it.
What it means on a daily basis
You’ll know the engine well enough to open it up, find what’s really going on, and turn every fix into a practice the whole team can build on:
- Become the team's go-to Unreal Engine expert and the GPP leads' technical partner on defining coding standards
- Develop the engine systems the game needs in C++, in direct support of the GPP team
- Diagnose and fix existing technical issues — and get ahead of the next ones
- Own console TRC compliance across every platform
- Set up a performance-tracking system, drawing on Unreal's testing APIs or Gauntlet
- Monitor performance through Unreal Insights and share your recommendations with the GPPs
What success will look like
The GPPs come to you naturally and know they can count on you. Your documentation on engine processes and best practices becomes a go-to reference for the team, you've taken ownership of TRC and performance issues, and you know how to dive deep into the engine whenever it's needed.
Who you would be working with
You'll report to our Gameplay Director, work closely with our Gameplay Lead, Studio Technical Director and the whole GPP team.
Qualifications
Who you are
You’re the person teammates come to when things get stuck, and you like leaving them better equipped than you found them.
- You’re a natural evangelist for best practices, and you enjoy teaching as much as solving.
- You’re the technical firefighter people call in a tight spot, and you stay calm because you want to understand why something works before working around it.
- You stay curious and rigorous, and you’re open to feedback, never set in your own certainties.
What you need to succeed
You’ve spent real time under Unreal’s hood, and you’re comfortable when the answer isn’t in the docs.
- Strong C++ and Unreal Engine experience, with a genuine appetite for digging into the engine itself.
- Knowledge of console TRC and their technical requirements.
- Hands-on experience with Unreal Insights for performance diagnostics.
- Professional French and English, since English is increasingly used day to day.
- A plus: familiarity with Unreal’s rendering stack and rendering-oriented performance.
Your recruitment journey
- First interview: with our HR Manager
- Test: CodinGames exercise
- Second interview: with our Technical Director and our Lead Gameplay
- Third interview: with our Game Manager and Studio Manager
Where this role can take you
By building recognized engine expertise on Unreal, you're set to become the studio's technical reference on the subject — with real potential to grow into a lead or engine architect role.
