Job Description

Do you have solid hands-on experience in customs and trade compliance and are looking for a role where you can take on more responsibility and expand your expertise? As our Customs & Export Control Specialist, you will work independently on day-to-day import and export compliance tasks — from tariff classification and customs declarations to export control screenings and license applications. You will be a trusted contact for internal teams and external partners, contribute to the continuous improvement of our trade compliance processes, and help keep our operations ahead of a constantly evolving regulatory landscape.

What you will do

• Manage import and export activities, including the preparation of customs declarations, documentation, and regulatory compliance
• Perform tariff classification, customs valuation, and country of origin determinations
• Conduct export control screenings, including dual-use assessments and restricted-party checks
• Prepare and track export license applications, permits, and renewals
• Review shipping documents, invoices, and customs records for accuracy and compliance
• Maintain up-to-date and audit-ready records related to customs declarations, export classifications, and compliance checks
• Maintain customs and export control procedures and internal controls
• Support risk assessments and internal audits, and contribute to the implementation of corrective actions
• Act as a contact point for customs brokers, freight forwarders, and authorities
• Provide guidance to internal teams (Logistics, Procurement, Sales) on customs and export control topics
• Monitor regulatory changes and industry developments, and contribute to the update of internal processes
• Support process improvement and digitalization initiatives in trade compliance
• Contribute to cross-functional projects involving international trade or supply chain topics

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field
• Freight forwarding clerk education or a relevant certification (e.g., P36 Customs Officer, P37 Customs Broker) is a plus
• Preferably professional certifications in customs or export control (e.g., Certified Export Compliance Professional, Customs Specialist) 
• Solide knowledge of customs regulations, export control laws, and international trade compliance (e.g., HS codes, EU Dual-Use Regulation, EAR, ITAR)
• Practical experience managing import/export processes, customs declarations, and trade compliance requirements
• Ability to classify products for customs and export control purposes, including dual-use assessments
• Experience with customs or trade compliance systems (e.g., SAP GTS, Amber Road, MIC, Descartes)
• Knowledge of free trade agreements, preferential origin rules, and international customs frameworks
• Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working across internal teams and with external partners
• High integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility for compliance obligations

With us you will receive an attractive annual gross salary from 50.000 € (plus bonus, KV Metallgewerbe). Depending on your experience, this can also be higher.
