Job Description

As a Physics Modeling Development Engineer, you will apply and advance physics-based models, calibration algorithms and correction strategies that directly improve the performance of our multi-beam mask writer systems. Working at the intersection of physics, data and software, you will analyze complex system behavior, investigate performance limitations, and continuously enhance existing modeling and correction solutions. You will translate insights from machine and experimental data into robust, production-ready calibration and correction workflows, ensuring their successful validation, deployment and long-term effectiveness in our tools.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze machine and experimental data to understand physical effects impacting system performance, particularly registration and critical dimension
• Investigate complex system and customer performance issues through data analysis, debugging and structured root-cause analysis
• Refine and extend existing physics-based correction models, calibration algorithms and numerical methods, developing new approaches where needed
• Implement and automate models, algorithms and analysis workflows primarily using Python and ensure their integration into our tool software
• Develop and maintain standardized tuning, calibration and verification workflows, including automated data evaluation
• Validate model predictions and correction strategies against experimental and machine data and continuously improve their performance
• Drive new modeling and correction approaches from initial concept through testing and verification to implementation and roll-out
• Provide 3rd-level technical support for complex system performance issues and contribute to structured root-cause analysis
• Collaborate closely with Application & Testing, Application Lab, Engineering, Software Development, Product Management and Service

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computational Science or a comparable discipline, with approximately 2–3 years of relevant professional experience; alternatively, a relevant PhD demonstrating independent research and project work
• Very good Python skills for scientific computing, numerical modeling, automation and data analysis
• Strong background in physics-based or numerical modeling and the ability to translate complex physical phenomena into quantitative models and algorithms
• Experience developing and validating models, algorithms or simulation software against experimental or real-world data
• Understanding of professional software development practices such as version control, structured code development and unit/integration testing
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills combined with the ability to independently investigate complex technical topics
• Experience in semiconductor industry or another complex high-tech environment is a strong advantage
• Fluent English and a collaborative approach to working across technical teams
• The ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly across teams is an advantage

With us you will receive an attractive annual gross salary from 65.000 € (plus bonus, KV Metallgewerbe). Depending on your experience, this can also be higher.
