Job Description

Are you a trade compliance professional who thrives at the intersection of regulation, logistics, and global business? As our Customs & Export Control Expert, you will be the go-to person ensuring that all of our import and export operations meet the highest regulatory standards — from tariff classification and customs declarations to dual-use assessments and export licensing. You will work closely with internal teams such as Logistics, Procurement, and Sales, as well as external partners including customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities. In this role, you will not only manage day-to-day trade compliance but also drive process improvements, digitalization, and continuous optimization. What you will do

• Ensure full compliance with all applicable customs, trade, and export control laws and regulations (e.g., EU Dual-Use Regulation, EAR, ITAR, customs codes)
• Manage and oversee import and export activities, including accurate documentation, declarations, and regulatory adherence
• Determine tariff classifications, customs valuation, country of origin, and preferential treatment under free trade agreements
• Monitor export control classifications, including dual-use assessments, restricted-party screening, and licensing requirements
• Coordinate and manage applications for export licenses, permits, and exemptions with authorities and external partners
• Develop, implement, and maintain customs and export control policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Conduct risk assessments and internal audits to identify compliance gaps and drive corrective actions
• Review and approve shipping documents, invoices, and customs records for accuracy and compliance
• Serve as the primary point of contact for customs authorities, freight forwarders, brokers, and government agencies
• Provide expert guidance and training to internal teams (Logistics, Procurement, Sales, Legal, Supply Chain)
• Monitor regulatory changes and industry developments, assessing business impact and advising on necessary updates
• Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready records related to customs declarations, export classifications, and compliance checks
• Support investigations of potential violations or audit findings and lead corrective and preventive action plans
• Drive process improvements and digitalization initiatives in trade compliance
• Contribute to cross-functional projects involving international trade, supply chain strategy, or market-entry activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field
• Freight forwarding clerk education or a relevant certification (e.g., P36 Customs Officer, P37 Customs Broker)
• Professional certifications in customs or export control (e.g., Certified Export Compliance Professional, Customs Specialist)
• Strong knowledge of customs regulations, export control laws, and international trade compliance (e.g., HS codes, EU Dual-Use Regulation, EAR, ITAR)
• Practical experience managing import/export processes, customs declarations, and trade compliance requirements
• Ability to classify products for customs and export control purposes, including dual-use assessments
• Experience with customs or trade compliance systems (e.g., SAP GTS, Amber Road, MIC, Descartes)
• Knowledge of free trade agreements, preferential origin rules, and international customs frameworks
• Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities
• Experience in multinational organizations or global supply chain environments
• Solid understanding of risk management principles, internal controls, and audit processes in a trade compliance context
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working across internal teams and with external partners
• Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business processes
• High integrity, confidentiality, and a strong sense of responsibility for compliance obligations

With us you will receive an attractive annual gross salary from 70.000 € (plus bonus, KV Metallgewerbe). Depending on your experience, this can also be higher.
