The Director, Supply Chain Product Planning, will serve as an individual contributor and partner with the clinical supply chain team, commercial supply chain team, CMC-project management, CMC-QA, finance, and CMO project core teams to obtain forecasts, which the Director will then use to generate/update the  inventory projections and supply plans across multiple, global, external CMOs. This role also monitors global stock levels, sets safety stock guidelines, and allocates bulk materials. The Director will also help design planning processes within and outside of our ERP and supply chain management system (SCMS) tools, implement them in the systems, help select the right systems to scale, and use data analytics to turn ERP and SCMS data into dashboards, scenarios, and recommendations that drive decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the combined clinical and commercial forecasts within the supply chain management system (SCMS) planning and inventory management tool based on actual demands and future projection inputs from clinical and commercial teams, and track forecast accuracy.
  • Translate clinical trial enrollment schedules and commercial sales forecasts into the master production plan for drug substance, drug product, drug/device combination products, clinical finished goods, and commercial finished goods.
  • Allocate drug substance batches to clinical versus commercial end use, considering Regulatory-driven material requirements, and communicate bulk material allocations and associated finished goods production plans to clinical and commercial supply colleagues to support finished good batch production at packaging and labeling vendors.
  • Build and maintain item/material masters within the ERP and SCMS tools, and help to define master data standards.
  • Contribute supply chain input into cross-functional CD&OP/S&OP processes.
  • Provide supply plan requests to CMO core teams at vendor-specific frequency and integrate endorsed manufacturing schedules into the master production plan within the SCMS.
  • Establish safety stock guidelines, lot sizing, and shelf-life and expiry policies for materials across the global supply chain, project future inventory positions, and monitor global stock levels, safety stock, and expiration dates to prevent overstocking or stockouts for clinical and commercial materials.
  • Plan material requirements for drug substance, raw materials, excipients, components, devices, and packaging and labeling materials against bills of materials and CMO schedules.
  • Respond to dynamic clinical and commercial projections by developing/comparing various scenarios and determining/communicating the associated impact across end-to-end materials, including budget impact in partnership with finance.
  • Identify supply bottlenecks, manage lead times, and maintain operational continuity under strict GxP rules.
  • Support commercial launch readiness activities.
  • Develop planning processes (forecasting, S&OP, master production scheduling, materials planning, inventory management, and allocation), in partnership with the Senior Director, within and outside of ERP and SCMS tools, and document them with defined roles, cadences, and controls.
  • Implement the planning processes in the ERP and SCMS tools, including defining requirements, configuration, testing, validation, and training, in partnership with IT and QA, and support the evaluation and selection of ERP, SCMS, and planning and analytics tools.
  • Use ERP and SCMS data to build dashboards, reports, and models that support decision making, and define and track planning KPIs such as forecast accuracy, plan adherence, CMO schedule adherence, inventory days on hand, and expiry and write-off rates.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, life sciences, supply chain, business, engineering or another relevant field; advanced degree and/or APICS CPIM/CSCP certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience.

  • Deep expertise in demand, supply, and materials planning, including S&OP, master production scheduling, MRP, safety stock and inventory optimization, and scenario planning for clinical and commercial supply.
  • Demonstrated ability to design planning processes within and outside of ERP and SCMS tools, and implement them in systems, including testing, validation, and change management; experience contributing to system evaluation and selection.
  • Strong data analytics skills, including advanced Excel, SQL, and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), with a proven ability to turn system data into KPIs, dashboards, and insights that drive decisions.
  • Ability to present analyses and recommendations to senior leadership and work effectively with external CMO and vendor partners.
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes for drug substance, drug product, drug/device combination products, clinical finished goods, and commercial finished goods.
