Production Development Engineer - R&D
Company Description
INFICON is a leading provider of innovative measuring instruments, critical sensor technologies, and software solutions for intelligent manufacturing/Industry 4.0 that improve the productivity and quality of tools, processes, and entire factories. These analysis, measurement, and control products are essential for detecting gas leaks in air conditioning/refrigeration and automotive manufacturing. They are of critical importance for equipment manufacturers and end-users in the complex manufacturing of semiconductors and thin-film coatings for optics, flat-panel displays, solar cells, and industrial vacuum coating applications. Other users of our vacuum-based processes include the life sciences, research, aerospace, packaging industry, heat treatment, laser cutting, and many other industrial processes. We also leverage our expertise in vacuum technology to offer unique products for the analysis of toxic chemicals in the areas of disaster protection, safety, and environmental health and safety. The company in Åland, INFICON Aaland Ab, with approximately 120 employees, is the Group's competence centre for the development and manufacture of ceramic vacuum gauges.
Job Description
Would you like to help drive the development of tomorrow’s sensor technology? We work on exciting development projects in advanced sensor technology, where new ideas must constantly be turned into real, measurable results.
INFICON Aaland is seeking a Production Development Engineer for our sensor development team. Please note that the workplace is in Mariehamn (Åland, Finland) and that the role requires good oral and written skills in both Swedish and English.
Your Role
This is not a role where you sit still behind a computer reading reports. You will be in the middle of things: coordinating the build of test sensors, making sure the test equipment never stands idle, and being the person who gathers and interprets the data that decides which way development goes next. The work is done in close collaboration with more experienced development engineers and offers unique opportunities to build a deep understanding of how sensors are constructed, how they are manufactured, and how they perform, through hands-on work close to production.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and drive the construction of test sensors and test units together with production, including planning material flow and test batches.
- Ensure that calibration and test equipment is continuously supplied with samples.
- Collect, structure and carry out basic analysis of process parameters and measurement data.
- Identify and report deviations or variation in the build process and contribute to improvements.
- Serve as the daily point of contact between the development department and production for prototype builds.
- Document work processes, test results and lessons learned in a structured way that is accessible to the team.
- Actively take part in team discussions about results and next steps in the development work.
- Develop and contribute to the continuous improvement of the learning cycles (experiment planning, prototype build and test processes).
- Actively use AI and statistical tools, for example in experiment planning and data analysis.
Qualifications
- Engineer or engineering technician (Bachelor or Master)
- Relatively newly graduated, and eager to put what you've learned into practice.
- You like being close to production.
- You are structured with data.
- You thrive in the space between theory and practice.
- You don't need to know everything on day one — but you want to learn quickly, take responsibility, and grow with the task.
- If you bring knowledge in vacuum technology, mechanics or electronics from your studies, we see that as particularly valuable, since the role is at the intersection of these very areas — but it's not a requirement, and we place great emphasis on your curiosity and your practical mindset.
