Job Description

The company

Small businesses move fast. Opportunities often don’t wait, and cash flow pressures can appear overnight. To keep going, and growing, SMEs need finance that’s as flexible and responsive as they are.

That's why we built iwoca. Our smart technology, data science and five-star customer service ensures business owners can act with the speed, confidence and control they need, exactly when it's needed.

We’ve already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding. Our passionate team is driven to help even more SMEs succeed, through access to better finance and other services that make running a business easier. Our ultimate mission is to support one million SMEs in their defining moments, creating lasting impact for the communities and economies they drive.

We’re looking for a FP&A Analyst

You’ll translate complex financial data into useful management information and produce annual budgets aiding long-term planning and growth.

The team

The FP&A team is responsible for driving strategic decision making through forecasting, analysis and reporting on performance. You'll work closely with the FP&A Manager and will also work with the wider finance team, as well as other functions across iwoca including capital markets and strategy. It's a small team, so you'll have real ownership from early on and direct exposure to senior stakeholders and the Board.

The role

We're building a fast-paced FP&A function, powered by better data and by making the most of the tools available to us. You'll take real ownership of that: writing the queries, building the datasets and pipelines, and helping shape our forecasting platform, while learning the financial planning side so you understand what the numbers mean, not just where they come from.

You won't need a finance qualification or years of FP&A experience to apply. This is a genuine route for a strong analyst who wants to move closer to the commercial heart of the business, and equally suited to someone who already combines technical and commercial finance skills.

Operational FP&A

  • Preparation of the monthly operating model, including reconciliations to accounting software and posting of journals required to complete the model;

  • Contribute to and improve forecasting methodology;

  • Assisting in preparation of monthly Board documentation and interim and year-end Budget documents;

  • Liaising with departments across the business to:

    • Understand business developments and how they impact inputs to the operating model.

    • Identify areas of inconsistencies between operating model forecasts and those used by the wider business to improve the accuracy of reporting.

    • Understand reporting requirements for each department to increase quality of communication across the business.;

  • Reporting to external stakeholders

Data engineering

  • Writing SQL to pull, clean and reconcile financial and operational data from across the business, and building the datasets and pipelines that feed our operating model and reporting;

  • Finding and fixing weak points in how data reaches us, and moving reporting off manual processes and onto something that runs itself;

  • Contributing to the build out of iwoca's forecasting platform, designing features and using AI tools to build, test and speed up your work;

  • Integrating with third-party tools e.g. Looker, Snowflake and NetSuite.

The requirements

  • Proficient user of Excel and SQL;

  • Experience building something end-to-end — a pipeline, a dataset or an automated report;

  • Comfortable working with data from multiple sources, and confident tracing it back to source;

  • Willingness and curiosity to leverage AI tools, with the judgement to know when the output is wrong;

  • Some exposure to management accounts, forecasting or budgeting, or a genuine appetite to learn it properly;

  • A growth mindset, happy to own problems and build solutions rather than wait for direction;

  • Experience with Python, Snowflake, dbt, BigQuery, Looker, Power BI or Tableau would be desirable;

  • A finance qualification such as CIMA, ACA or ACCA, or a background in commercial FP&A, would be desirable but isn't required;

  • Experience at a start-up or scale-up, where you had to build things yourself, would be desirable

The culture

At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the development of our team members. We value thought and skill diversity, and encourage people to explore new areas of interest, adopt better tools – including AI – and apply sound judgement so our products and decisions improve over time.

The offices

We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a great place to work:

  • Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks.

  • Events and community-led groups, including running groups, padel, and monthly ping-pong and pool competitions.

The benefits

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Medical insurance from Vitality, including discounted gym membership.

  • A choice between a dedicated dental plan or a health cash plan that reimburses everyday medical expenses.

  • A private GP service (separate from Vitality) for you, your partner, and your dependents.

  • 25 days’ holiday per year, an extra day off for your birthday, the option to buy or sell an additional five days of annual leave, and unlimited unpaid leave.

  • A one-month, fully paid sabbatical after four years.

  • Instant access to external counselling and therapy sessions for team members that need emotional or mental health support.

  • 3% Pension contributions on total earnings.

  • An employee equity incentive scheme.

  • Generous parental leave and a nursery tax benefit scheme to help you save money.

  • Electric car scheme and cycle to work scheme.

  • Two company retreats a year: we’ve been to France, Italy, Spain, and further afield.

And to make sure we all keep learning, we offer:

  • A learning and development budget for everyone.

  • Company-wide talks with internal and external speakers.

  • Access to learning platforms like Treehouse.
