Part-Time Finance Director (Nonprofit)
Are you an experienced Controller or Finance Director looking for meaningful, flexible work? A respected, mission-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the Los Angeles area is looking for a part-time Finance Director. You would take over from a long-serving incumbent who is retiring at the end of the year.
This is a hands-on role for a finance leader who enjoys owning the whole cycle: day-to-day transactions, month-end close, budgeting, audit and Board reporting. You will be a trusted adviser to the Executive Director and work closely with the Finance Committee, the Board, the investment advisers and the external auditors. The team is small, collaborative and close-knit, and values connection, wellness, respect and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Weekly and bi-monthly operations
- Record deposits (checks, credit cards, ACH), and enter and pay bills
- Prepare invoices as needed
- Process bi-monthly payroll from timesheets
- Meet regularly with the Executive Director to advise on financial matters
Monthly close and reporting
- Run the month-end close checklist: bank and investment reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals (payroll, vacation, grants), plus prepaids, receivables, refundable advances and restricted net assets
- Reconcile corporate credit cards, review accounts payable, and manage fixed asset and depreciation schedules
