The role:
As an Engineering Manager, Foundations at Legora, you'll lead the team responsible for the core backend services and systems at the heart of our platform. You'll architect and deliver the high-scale services that power legal professionals' workflows every day, drive technical excellence at the foundation layer, and help shape a platform relied on by forward-thinking law firms around the world. This is a role for someone who thrives on owning complex, critical systems and loves to build, mentor, and scale both people and software.
What you will be doing:
Lead and grow a team of backend engineers hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers at all levels
Own team health: keep your team efficient, unblocked, and set up to do their best work
Set the technical bar: drive code quality, security, and system design standards across the team
Design and implement high-scale core backend services and APIs that power the entire Legora platform
Contribute directly to the codebase while supporting the growth of your team
Lead architecture discussions and technical decision-making on foundational systems
Set and uphold high standards in code quality, security, and system design
Collaborate closely with product engineering teams to provide robust, well-designed foundations they can build on confidently
Review code, give feedback, and mentor engineers at all levels
Champion best practices in backend engineering, service design, and continuous improvement
Work with Node.js, Azure, AWS and Kubernetes
Who you are:
Background as a seasoned full-stack / backend engineer with 1–3 years of leadership experience
Strong communicator who leads with empathy and clarity — passionate about mentoring others and helping teams grow
Deep experience building and operating high-scale distributed systems and core platform services, with end-to-end ownership from design through production reliability
Takes pride in building systems that others depend on, and holds a high bar for correctness and resilience
Proactively and independently solves the most pressing problems
Thrives in a fast-paced environment where the answers aren't always clear and processes are few
But most importantly: someone who gets stuff done, and understands that building a successful company takes real hard work and isn't always glamorous
This is a Stockholm-based, 5-day in-office role — we believe building together in person drives better outcomes.
