Forward Deployed Engineer
About M7 Health
M7 Health is the AI-powered workforce operations platform for healthcare, designed for the realities of clinical staffing and scheduling. We use AI to help organizations forecast demand, auto-balance schedules, and deploy the right person to fill every shift before resorting to premium labor spend. The result: health systems reduce overtime, cut contract labor costs, and give clinical leaders time back to focus on care. Built with the earned wisdom of nurses, M7 serves tens of thousands of healthcare professionals daily and activated over 100 net new hospitals across 29 states, last year alone.
In September 2026, M7 was acquired by Ascend Learning and joined its Healthcare Workforce Solutions practice alongside Laudio and StaffGarden. Ascend already works with 60% of U.S. nursing schools. Together, we're connecting the entire clinical career, from the classroom to the first shift and every shift after, with the reach and resources to take on healthcare's biggest workforce problems at national scale.
About The Role
We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to own the technical customer relationship with the health systems M7 connects to. You'll work directly with customer IT, payroll, HR, and business application teams to understand how their workforce data and workflows move today. You'll figure out exactly what M7 needs to support, then turn that into an integration approach our engineers can build against, across HRIS, time and attendance, SSO, and EMR systems.
During a launch, you're embedded with Activations, building integration workflows in lockstep with the operational workflows they're standing up with nursing leadership. You're also the technical utility player on every launch: if a script, query, or quick fix will get a customer live faster, you're the one who makes it happen.
Beyond individual launches, you'll help shape M7's integrations strategy: which systems and patterns we standardize on, where we invest in reusable capabilities versus one-off solutions, and how we scope integration commitments with new customers. Product owns the roadmap, but you'll have an active role in those decisions, bringing the most direct view of what customers actually need.
Responsibilities
Own technical customer relationships
Serve as the primary technical counterpart for customer IT, payroll, HR, and business application teams from late-stage sales through go-live and beyond
Run discovery with customer stakeholders to map current-state workflows (how a new hire flows from the HRIS, how hours and pay codes reach payroll, how users authenticate) and identify the integrations M7 must support
Review customer technical specs, interface documentation, and vendor API docs to assess what's feasible, what's required, and where the risks are
Support late-stage sales cycles, security reviews, and RFP responses so integration commitments are accurate before contracting
Deliver integrations and accelerate launches
Embed with the Activations team on new customer launches, sequencing integration work against the operational go-live plan
Write the integration specs engineering builds from, including field mappings, data flows, source-of-truth decisions, and edge cases
Handle hands-on integration setup yourself, such as configuring SSO with a customer's identity provider, standing up SFTP flat-file feeds, and configuring field mappings and data transformations
Test and validate data flows end to end, including reconciliation against source data, troubleshooting failed feeds, and running UAT with customer teams
Find and remove technical friction in the activation process, automating repetitive setup work so new customers go live faster each time
Own the integration workstream on every launch plan, tracking open items and flagging risk early
Shape integrations strategy
Act as a core voice in integrations strategy and planning alongside Product and Engineering leadership
Spot patterns across customers and turn one-off solutions into requirements for reusable capabilities
Partner with Product Managers on prioritization and with Integrations engineering on technical design
Build and maintain the playbooks, templates, and documentation that make each launch faster than the last
About You
Customer-facing technologist: You have 5+ years in forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, technical implementation, or integration consulting, with ownership of the technical relationship at enterprise customers. A software engineering background is a strong plus.
Hands-on technical: You're comfortable reading API documentation (REST and SOAP), interface specs, and data schemas, and you can do the configuration work yourself: setting up a SAML or OIDC connection with an identity provider like Okta or Entra ID, standing up an SFTP feed, or testing an endpoint in Postman. You can query data in SQL. You won't be coding all day, but you're technical enough to get an integration working without handing every step to an engineer.
Integration detective: You ask the questions that surface how work really happens, not just how the org chart says it does. You see how a pay rule or an HRIS field ends up shaping a nurse's schedule downstream, and you design for it.
Builder's mindset: You don't wait for a ticket to fix what's slowing a launch down. If a script, a query, or a better process gets a customer live faster, you just do it.
Scrappy and resourceful: You find the fastest path to "live" and aren't precious about whether the work is technically in your lane.
Strong communicator: You can run a discovery session with a hospital payroll director and turn it into a spec an engineer can build from
Structured and accountable: You track open items across concurrent launches, flag risk early, and drive to closure without being chased.
AI-Native: You actively use AI in your daily workflow, from writing code to documenting customer environments, and bring that mindset to how the team operates.
Attitude and Culture: You are aligned with M7's values: you act with urgency, bring relentless curiosity, lead with kindness, and hold yourself to a high standard of craft. You're passionate about the mission of making health systems stronger and show it every day.
Nice to Haves
Direct UKG experience: Hands-on familiarity with UKG data models (employee records, scheduling data, T&A feeds, pay rules).
Health system IT background: Experience inside a hospital IT, payroll, or HRIS team, or at a healthcare SaaS company, and an understanding of how large hospital networks make integration decisions.
Software engineering experience: You've worked as a software engineer and can write Python or TypeScript to transform data, debug a feed, or prove out an approach. Bonus for familiarity with our stack (TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, AWS).
Startup experience: Comfort building structure from scratch in a fast-moving environment.
Location
This role is open to both remote and New York-based candidates.
Compensation and Benefits
This role offers industry-competitive compensation, including cash compensation, annual performance-based bonus, and healthcare benefits.
Work Authorization
You must be authorized to work in the United States.
