Job Description

Compiles and computes freight rates, and other charges for transportation services, according to rate tables and tariff regulations.

  • Examines previously entered freight bill information for correctness and cross checking with copy of original bill of lading if deemed necessary.

  • Uses computer generated rates and tariffs to obtain specific charges for customers depending on distance, weight and volume shipped.

  • If computer generated rates are not available, must apply manual rates from current rate agreements or rates based on current costings.

  • Calculates and records storage, redelivery, reconsignment and other accessorial charges when applicable.

  • Answer E-mail, fax or telephone inquiries from customers and terminal contacts regarding rates, routing, packing procedures, service times and interline transportation procedures.

  • Examines bill of lading and other related documents in order to determine whether to rebill customers for short payments or credit off.

  • Compares computer generated rates to hard copy files to verify accuracy when necessary.

  • Generates other carriers revenues to be paid and reviews differences in interline payables vs. carrier billing and authorize or declines balance dues.

  • Classifies freight based on freight bill description and current NMFC guide.

  • Keep abreast of all proper procedures and ensure that the screen information is correct. i.e. rate cards, biller cards, accessorial charges, rate agreements, etc.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.

  • Proven ability to perform under pressure.

  • Evidence of good communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Good geographical knowledge of Canada and the United States.

  • Good math skills

  • Speed and accuracy is critical.

  • Billing background would be an asset.

  • LTL 400 knowledge is an asset.

  • Spreadsheet and query knowledge would also be an asset.
