SUMMARY

Kennedy Valve is seeking a hands-on Product Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of our valve and waterworks products. This position combines traditional product development engineering responsibilities with direct involvement in manufacturing operations, product testing, certification activities, and field support.

The Product Engineer is responsible for managing assigned product lines throughout their lifecycle and serves as the primary engineering resource for those products. Daily responsibilities include supporting manufacturing, responding to engineering requests, creating and revising drawings, generating customer submittal documentation, maintaining product data, and creating part numbers and bills of material. In addition, the Product Engineer will lead, and support longer-term research and development projects focused on new products, product enhancements, quality improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and manufacturing efficiency.

The successful candidate will work closely with other Product Engineers, Foundry, Finishing, Quality, Sales, Customer Service, and Continuous Improvement teams and must be comfortable working both in an office environment and on the production floor.

This is a hands-on role that combines engineering design and project work with direct involvement in manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting, and process improvement. The ideal candidate enjoys seeing projects from concept to production and values the opportunity to work directly with the products they design and support.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage assigned product lines and provide day-to-day engineering support.
• Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, part numbers, specifications, and product documentation.
• Generate customer submittal drawings and process engineering change requests.
• Design and revise components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Support manufacturing by troubleshooting product and process issues.
• Work directly with shop floor personnel to assemble, inspect, test, and evaluate products.
• Utilize measuring equipment and 3D scanning/metrology systems for inspection, analysis, and product validation.
• Support applicable certification and testing requirements.
• Lead product improvement and new product development projects.
• Investigate field, quality, and manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.

 

 

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with tools and inspection equipment.
• Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in an office and manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with valves, hydrants, waterworks, fire protection products, or similar industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of AWWA, UL, FM, NFPA, USC, and related industry standards.
• Experience with casting, machining, assembly, testing, and coating processes.
• Familiarity with GD&T and Design for Manufacturability principles.
• Experience with 3D scanning and metrology equipment.
• Experience supporting product certification and agency testing.
