Director of Quality Assurance
Job Summary:
The Director of Quality Assurance leads the QA organization through its transformation to an AI-optimized SDLC, able to support multiple product launches and continuous feature delivery in parallel across a multi-tenant SaaS platform. This leader defines the overarching quality strategy, champions the integration of AI tools across the entire SDLC, and scales automated, resilient testing frameworks to accelerate delivery while sustaining the reliability and regulatory compliance Medrio’s customers depend on. This position reports directly to the SVP of Engineering and works closely with Development, Product, Support, and Compliance throughout the SDLC. The QA organization is geographically dispersed, combining onshore and offshore teams of in-house engineers and external vendor partners working across multiple time zones.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- AI-Driven Quality Strategy: Lead the strategic integration of generative and predictive AI tools throughout the SDLC, including AI-assisted test case creation, requirements analysis, and automated risk-based test coverage.
- Quality Throughput & Capacity: Scale quality output in line with an AI-accelerated development organization, ensuring test capacity keeps pace with development output without compromising quality. Success is measured through cycle time to release, escaped defect rate, automated test coverage, and full regression suite runtime.
- Modern Test Automation Leadership: Oversee the evolution of automated testing strategies for a multi-tenant SaaS platform, prioritizing modern frameworks like Playwright alongside AI-powered self-healing test infrastructure to minimize script maintenance and maximize suite reliability. This includes tenant isolation and data-segregation testing, configuration-driven test matrices across tenant variants, and management of shared-schema regression risk.
- Organization Oversight: Direct all activities of the QA organization, ensuring continuous validation, high platform stability, and alignment with modern quality engineering best practices.
- Regulatory & Compliance Quality: Ensure QA practices, documentation, and evidence meet the requirements of a regulated healthcare environment (including HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP/CSV, SOC 2, and GDPR where applicable), and support internal and customer audits as a senior representative of the quality function.
- Validation of AI-Generated Test Assets: Own the framework by which AI-assisted test artifacts are reviewed, approved, and evidenced, ensuring automation generated with AI meets the traceability and audit standards required in a validated environment.
- Security-Forward Quality: Partner with Security and DevOps to embed security testing into the delivery pipeline (SAST/DAST, dependency and vulnerability triage, and coordination of penetration testing), and ensure PHI is appropriately handled and de-identified across test environments and test data.
- Distributed, Offshore & Vendor Team Leadership: Lead a distributed QA organization spanning in-house employees and external vendor teams across time zones, setting consistent standards, throughput expectations, and quality bars across both, and maintain strategic partnerships with QA vendors, tool providers, and staff augmentation partners to ensure tight alignment with internal goals.
- Strategic Roadmap Execution: Deliver on company strategic roadmaps and improve the cost and efficiency of the quality function as scope grows.
- Release Execution Across a Multi-Product Portfolio: Own the quality plan across multiple concurrent product launches and continuous SaaS feature releases, including parallel release trains, phased and feature-flagged rollouts, and release-readiness criteria that hold without becoming a gate on delivery.
- Team Leadership & Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and upskill QA leaders and engineers on AI-driven testing paradigms and modern automation toolchains.
- Defect & Metric Management: Monitor open bugs and defects, establish continuous improvement loops, and provide Engineering leadership with clear, data-driven quality metrics and insight into organizational performance.
- Budget Management: Manage the QA organization within an agreed-upon budget and support Engineering leadership in financial planning and resource forecasting.

Sound judgment about where AI is and is not appropriate in a validated environment.
- Change Leadership: Proven ability to take an established team through a tooling and process shift without losing delivery throughput or people.
- Full SDLC Mastery: Comprehensive understanding of the full Software Development Life Cycle and how quality engineering integrates into Agile and DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
- Regulated & Compliant Delivery: Demonstrated ownership of quality practices in a regulated healthcare setting, including validation, traceability, and audit evidence.
- Offshore & Vendor Team Management: Demonstrated ability to work with and manage offshore teams, both in-house employees and contractors supplied through external vendors, including selecting, onboarding, and managing QA vendors and external partners.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent executive communication skills with a proven track record of reporting metrics and strategic progress to C-level stakeholders.
