Field Service Engineer - Semiconductor Metrology - Japan

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of Nearfield's metrology systems installed at customer semiconductor fabrication facilities (fabs) across Japan. In this role, you will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, execute hardware and software upgrades, and troubleshoot issues that arise during wafer measurement operations. You will work closely with customers while collaborating with Nearfield's global service, technical support, and development teams. Beyond daily service activities, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of system reliability, uptime, and serviceability. You will also provide valuable field feedback and operational insights to support ongoing product and service development.

Field Service Engineer（フィールドサービスエンジニア）として、日本国内の顧客Fab（半導体製造工場）に設置されたNearfieldの計測システムの安定稼働を担っていただきます。予防保全・是正保全、ハードウェアおよびソフトウェアのアップグレードの実施に加え、ウェハ測定オペレーション中に発生する問題の解析・解決を担当します。お客様との密接な連携に加え、Nearfieldのグローバルサービスチーム、テクニカルサポートチーム、開発チームとも協力しながら業務を進めていただきます。また、日常のサービス業務に加え、装置の信頼性・稼働率・保守性の継続的な向上に貢献し、現場で得られた知見やフィードバックを製品およびサービス開発へ還元していただきます。

Key Responsibilities / 主な業務内容

• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on Nearfield Instruments metrology systems.

• Collect and analyse log files and diagnostic data, working closely with support teams to perform root cause analysis (RCA).

• Execute corrective actions during service interventions and system upgrade activities.

• Perform and document system- and subsystem-level testing in accordance with service and test plans.

• Identify, resolve, or appropriately escalate service-related issues, while proposing improvements to enhance system reliability and service quality.

• Replace maintenance parts and perform upgrades according to established procedures and tools.

• Develop and maintain testing and calibration procedures for systems and subsystems.

• Order required spare parts and tools from headquarters.

• Inspect, register, and manage inventory of delivered spare parts and consumables.

• Prepare equipment, tools, procedures, and systems required for service and upgrade activities.

• Maintain the service toolbox, including inspection, cleaning, and replacement of tools when necessary.

• Act as Nearfield's "eyes and ears" at customer fabs by providing customer feedback and competitive intelligence to internal stakeholders.

• Nearfield Instrumentsの計測システムにおけるハードウェアおよびソフトウェアのトラブルシューティング

• ログファイルや診断データを収集・分析し、サポート部門と連携して根本原因分析（Root Cause Analysis）を実施

• サービス対応やシステムアップグレード時の是正処置の実行

• サービス計画および試験計画に基づき、システムおよびサブシステムレベルでの試験を実施・記録

• サービスに関連する課題の特定、解決、または適切なエスカレーションを行い、システム信頼性およびサービス品質向上のための改善提案を行う

• 定められた手順およびツールに従い、保守部品の交換やアップグレードを実施

• システムおよびサブシステムの試験・校正手順の作成および維持管理

• 必要となる保守部品およびツールを本社へ発注

• 納品されたスペアパーツおよび消耗品の検品、登録、在庫管理

• サービス作業やアップグレード作業に必要な設備、ツール、手順書、およびシステムの準備

• サービスツールボックスの管理（点検、清掃、必要に応じた工具交換を含む）

• 顧客FabにおけるNearfieldの「目と耳」として活動し、顧客からのフィードバックや競合情報を社内へ共有

Qualifications / 応募資格

Required Qualifications / 必須要件

• Native-level Japanese or JLPT N1-N2 proficiency, with professional business-level English communication skills.

• At least 3 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

　　1) Field service engineering within semiconductor fabrication facilities (fabs)

　　OR

　　2) IC manufacturing processes, semiconductor equipment, or the semiconductor industry

• Strong interest in and understanding of software and control systems.

• Experience with data analysis and visualization using tools such as MATLAB and Python is highly desirable.

• Excellent planning, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Ability to thrive in the fast-paced and rapidly changing environment of a scaling technology company.

• 日本語（母国語レベルまたはJLPT N1―N2）英語での実務経験（ビジネスレベル以上）

• 半導体計測装置およびそのアプリケーションに関する深い知識

• 以下いずれかの分野において、3年以上の実務経験を有すること

1) 半導体製造工場（Fab）におけるフィールドサービス業務

もしくは

2) IC製造プロセス、半導体製造装置、または半導体業界での業務経験

• ソフトウェアおよび制御システムに対する高い関心・理解

• MATLAB、Pythonなどを用いたデータ解析・可視化の経験があれば尚可

• 優れた計画力、分析力、および対人コミュニケーション能力

This position requires frequent travel to major semiconductor industry hubs and customer sites across Japan. Key locations include Nagasaki and other semiconductor manufacturing regions throughout the country.
