Job Description

About Nuance Labs

Nuance Labs is building photorealistic, real-time AI avatars with emotional intelligence: a full-duplex audiovisual system that can listen, speak, react, interrupt, and respond like a real person.

We're a research company, with PhDs from MIT, UW, Oxford, CMU, and Johns Hopkins, and industry experience from Apple, Meta, Amazon AGI, and more. Backed by Accel, Lightspeed, South Park Commons, and NVIDIA, we combine frontier research with ruthless engineering needed for consumer-grade, real-time systems. The team is small, the work is real, and the problems are unsolved.

How Nuance Differentiates

Most conversational AI avatars today are hacks — a face slapped on a speech-to-speech pipeline, stuck in the uncanny valley: emotionless, mechanical, one-turn-at-a-time. Current systems take 2–5 seconds to respond; natural conversation requires sub-500ms. That's a 10x improvement, and it demands rethinking the entire stack.

That rethinking starts with full-duplex: an AI that listens and speaks simultaneously, perceives emotion in real time, and responds with a face that actually reflects it. It's an extremely hard problem, and we're developing foundation models designed for it from the ground up.

About the Role

We’re looking for a rare mix of creative storyteller, strategic thinker, and hands-on builder to own marketing at Nuance Labs.

Nuance Labs is a frontier AI research lab building real-time audio-visual AI that can see, hear, and engage in natural, expressive conversations. Your job is to make people understand what’s possible, feel why it matters, and want to experience it for themselves. You’ll need to speak comfortably to both technical and non-technical audiences, translating frontier research into stories that resonate with researchers, developers, and consumers.

Your core mandate is brand, storytelling, and product launches, with social and community central to how we reach people. The role spans strategy to execution, from shaping our positioning to writing launch scripts, directing demo videos, and creating campaigns that get people talking. You’ll work directly with the founders and research and product teams to reach both consumers and technical developers.

You’ll start as a hands-on individual contributor, owning strategy and execution directly. As we grow, you’ll build and lead a small team to amplify our marketing reach and impact while staying close to the creative work.

High ownership. Strong creative taste. Direct impact on how the world discovers Nuance Labs and what happens after the first impression.

What You’ll Own

  • Define Nuance Lab’s brand, voice, and visual direction, and bring them to life across our website, social presence, campaigns, and product storytelling.
  • Own product launches end-to-end: positioning, narrative, creative concepts, demos, video, written content, distribution, launch-day execution, and follow-through.
  • Create compelling stories through writing and video. Write launch copy, develop hooks, scripts, and demo concepts, and own creative direction. Bring in production, editing, and design specialists to help execute your vision.
  • Build social media campaigns and product moments that people want to share. Combine an understanding of internet culture, audience behavior, and distribution to create organic reach and momentum.
  • Reach both consumers and technical developers with stories and use cases that resonate, pairing broad creative appeal with technical substance and credibility.
  • Own our social strategy and community development, including relationships with creators, technical voices, and partners who can help bring Nuance to new audiences.
  • Connect brand and launch efforts to product adoption. Set clear goals, measure results, and use audience feedback to sharpen our storytelling and distribution in partnership with the product team.
  • Build the marketing function from the ground up: prioritize resources, manage budgets and creative partners, and build a small team that amplifies our reach and impact. This may include hiring a growth marketer to own acquisition experiments and conversion optimization under your leadership.

What We’re Looking For

  • A track record of building brands, launching products, or creating campaigns that earned meaningful attention and drove adoption. You can show the work, explain your contribution, and connect creative choices to results.
  • Exceptional writing and strong storytelling instincts for video: an ability to find the central idea, develop a strong hook, write a compelling script, and guide creative execution.
  • Sharp strategic judgment and intellectual curiosity. You learn quickly, ask insightful questions, and connect product capabilities, audience insight, and timing to a focused plan.
  • Strong creative taste and social instincts. You understand what feels fresh, what feels forced, and why people share; you’re fluent in the cultures of the platforms and communities you’re trying to reach.
  • Technical curiosity and fluency. You can work closely with researchers and engineers, understand what is novel about their work, and communicate it with credibility to technical audiences and clarity to non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on execution and end-to-end ownership. You’re excited to start as an individual contributor and can take a launch from a blank page to the finish line. You also have the judgment and leadership ability to hire, develop, and direct a small team as the function grows.
  • Resourcefulness and adaptability in an early-stage environment. You know when to execute the work yourself, when to bring in specialists, and how to hold a high creative bar while moving quickly.

Bonus Points

  • Experience marketing AI products, consumer technology, or developer tools.
  • Experience building an audience or community of your own, or creating content that spread well beyond its initial audience.
  • Hands-on skills in video production, editing, or design.
  • Relationships with creators, developers, and communities relevant to AI.
  • Experience building a marketing function or leading major launches at an early-stage company.

Show Us Your Work

Share two or three launches, campaigns, videos, or writing samples you’re proud of. Tell us what you personally owned, the thinking behind the work, and what happened as a result. We care more about the quality of your work and judgment than whether you’ve held a Head of Marketing title before.

Compensation

$250,000 – $350,000 base salary, plus meaningful equity. We think long-term ownership matters and structure equity accordingly.

  • Work setup: One-time $500 to spend on any tech or accessories that you might need to optimize your workflow.
  • Time off: 15 days of PTO, 10 public holidays, and we close the office for a full week at year-end.
  • Food: Lunch, drinks, and snacks on us every workday. We observe boba tea Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Commuter benefits: Utilize pre-tax money (up to $340/month) for parking and transportation.
