Job Description

Our mission at Greenhouse is to make hiring work for everyone – so we go to great lengths to hire great people because we believe that they’re the foundation of our success. At Greenhouse, you’ll join a team that collaborates purposefully, fosters inclusivity, and communicates with transparency and accountability so we can achieve our mission.

Join us to do the best work of your career, solving meaningful problems with remarkable teams.

Greenhouse is looking for a Vice President, Security to lead company-wide security strategy and execution across product security, corporate security, and information security.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role will lead the Security team and create trust by protecting candidate and employee data. This leader will take a first-principles approach to evolving our security program as we scale to our next stage of growth and complexity. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team and R&D Leadership Team, you’ll advise executive leadership and the Board on security posture, risk, and investments. You’ll also partner closely with Product, Legal, Engineering, Privacy, Sales, and Customer Success as Greenhouse scales its data platform and AI-enabled product capabilities responsibly.

Who will love this job

  • A strategic, hands-on leader who sets direction for an entire security organization and still engages deeply with technical details when it matters
  • A leader who moves with urgency and is energized by an ambitious growth plan, scaling the security program at the pace the business needs without trading away customer trust
  • A leader of leaders who develops managers and directors, builds a strong bench, and creates a team culture of ownership, curiosity, inclusion, and continuous learning
  • A calm incident leader who brings clarity under pressure and communicates decisively with company leadership, customers, and regulators
  • A decisive risk owner who separates real risk from noise, makes timely trade-offs across budget, risk, and velocity, and invests where it counts
  • A trust builder who sees security as a competitive advantage and earns credibility with the ELT, the Board, customers, and auditors
  • An agile communicator who translates complex security and technology risks into clear recommendations for executives, the Board, customers, and partners

What you’ll do

  • Define and own Greenhouse’s security strategy, multi-year roadmap, operating model, budget, and investment priorities
  • Lead a multidisciplinary security organization spanning product security, corporate security, and information security. Build it to be AI-native, using automation and agentic workflows to scale assessments, triage, investigations, and compliance evidence
  • Build and develop a strong leadership bench, including hiring, coaching, succession planning, and career development
  • Own Greenhouse’s security risk posture, including enterprise, third-party, and vendor risk, and risk acceptance decisions. Set risk appetite with the ELT and oversee compliance and assurance programs, including SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and ISO 42001
  • Lead security response for serious incidents, from detection and triage through executive, customer, regulatory, and post-incident communications
  • Own annual disaster recovery exercises with Platform Engineering and regulatory notification timelines
  • Establish governance for how AI is used across Greenhouse, by our people and in our product, including acceptable-use policies and standards, data handling, access boundaries, human oversight, and auditability
  • Lead Greenhouse’s data security and governance program, including data classification, access controls, data loss prevention, and data residency, in partnership with Privacy and Legal
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, IT, Legal, Privacy, and Finance on secure-by-default design, identity, and customer commitments
  • Advise Sales and Customer Success on strategic security reviews and enterprise deals, and join customer trust conversations with CISOs and CTOs as needed
  • Represent Greenhouse security with the Board, customers, prospects, partners, auditors, and industry audiences
  • Lead security due diligence and integration for mergers and acquisitions

You should have

  • 12+ years of experience in security, including 5+ years leading a multidisciplinary security organization
  • Experience serving as a Head of Security, CISO, Vice President of Security, or comparable senior security leader
  • Experience owning an end-to-end security program and scaling a security organization through significant growth at a B2B SaaS or consumer technology company, ideally with exposure to both, including strategy, budget, and headcount planning
  • Experience across security operations, cloud security, product security, identity and access management, risk, compliance, and incident response
  • Experience leading serious security incidents in partnership with Legal, communications, executives, customers, and regulators
  • Experience working with external auditors and leading compliance and assurance programs such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001
  • Experience presenting security posture, material risks, investment needs, and trade-offs to executive leadership and a Board
  • Experience securing cloud environments such as AWS and Kubernetes, and working with modern identity standards and platforms including Okta, OpenID Connect, or SAML
  • Experience with AI security, AI governance, responsible AI, or securing AI-enabled products
  • Experience with ISO 42001, ISO 27701, GDPR, the EU AI Act, HR technology, or products handling sensitive personal data, a plus
  • Your own unique talents! Your background has given you a unique perspective and set of transferable skills that aren't always in alignment with a given role - but those are qualities we value at Greenhouse. If you don't meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, we still strongly encourage you to apply
