Reporting to the Principal Counsel, Commercial Legal - Marketing, this role will serve as Lead Counsel, Commercial & Marketing for EMEA and be a key member of Oura’s Legal Team. The role will partner closely with the EMEA Commercial, Sales, Partnerships, Retail and Marketing teams, along with other cross-functional leaders, to support Oura as the company grows and scales across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial lawyer with substantial in-house and law firm experience advising on and negotiating complex B2B sales, strategic partnerships, and retail and distribution arrangements across EMEA. Beyond commercial transactions, the right candidate will have hands-on experience advising marketing teams on advertising, promotions and consumer-facing campaigns in the UK and EU. The successful candidate will bring strong judgment, credibility with senior stakeholders, and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Review, draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements as the lead lawyer supporting the EMEA Commercial and Marketing functions, including enterprise and corporate sales agreements, B2B and channel partnerships, strategic alliances, and co-marketing arrangements.
  • Structure and negotiate retail, distribution, reseller, marketplace and e-commerce agreements across EMEA markets.
  • Counsel and advise stakeholders on legal issues affecting the EMEA business, supporting alignment, efficiency and excellence in execution of commercial and marketing initiatives.
  • Serve as a strategic thinker who helps shape company-wide risk strategy while driving key initiatives and applying a solutions-focused approach.
  • Operate as a hands-on practitioner, comfortable managing high volumes of complex transactions.
  • Build and refine internal transactional and marketing review processes, templates, playbooks and tools that can scale efficiently with company growth.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior executives, providing clear, business-oriented judgment and actionable recommendations.
  • Coordinate with US Legal, Privacy, Product and outside counsel to deliver consistent global positions adapted to local market requirements.

This is a hybrid role out of our London office. We expect you to work around 2-3 days at the office weekly. Naturally there is flexibility (e.g. you might work from home for some time without visiting the office) but the idea is that you spend time connecting with the folks at the London office face to face on a regular basis.

What you'll bring

  • 8+  years of combined law firm and in-house PQE, with at least 4 years supporting commercial transactions and marketing in a consumer products, consumer technology or retail business.
  • Qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, or holding an equivalent qualification in an EU jurisdiction with the right to practise in that jurisdiction.
  • Working knowledge of UK and EU competition law as it applies to distribution and retail arrangements, including vertical agreements, selective distribution and pricing restrictions.
  • Deep working knowledge of UK and EU consumer protection, advertising and e-commerce frameworks (including the CAP Code and ASA regime, and UK and EU consumer protection and unfair commercial practices rules), with the ability to apply them pragmatically to business objectives.
  • Exceptional drafting skills, with experience negotiating and preparing sophisticated sales, partnership, distribution and retail agreements.
  • Familiarity with UK GDPR, EU GDPR and ePrivacy/PECR as they apply to marketing, partnerships and data sharing.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risk while enabling scalable, innovative go-to-market models across multiple markets.
  • Strong judgment and comfort operating as a trusted advisor to senior business stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.
  • Clear, practical communicator who can translate complex legal issues into actionable guidance.
  • Excels at working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Additional European languages are a plus.
