Judicial Recovery Lead

About the role

Banco Plata is building the legal collections function for Mexico from the ground up. Today the judicial recovery process in this market is almost entirely manual: paper files, physical trips to court, power-of-attorney documents consumed case by case. No bank has yet managed to automate it end to end.

We are looking for a lawyer to own and lead that function: to run the current process well, to redesign it so it can scale through automation, and to engage courts and regulators directly so the process can eventually be standardized across the industry.

This is a hands-on leadership role with a small team today and clear growth potential as the portfolio and the function scale.

What you will do

• Redesign the process for scale. Work with product, analytics and engineering to move from spreadsheets and manual court visits to an automated case pipeline: status tracking, document generation, follow-up automation and a single internal system of record.
• Build relationships with courts and authorities. Lead conversations with court directors, CNBV and other relevant bodies to improve admission rates and agree on faster, more standardized handling of banking collections cases.
• Manage external counsel and providers, including law firms, notaries and the power-of-attorney lifecycle, with a focus on cost per case and turnaround times.
• Lead and grow a small team of lawyers and legal assistants: define responsibilities, set KPIs, review performance and hire as the function scales.
• Own the numbers. Report monthly on recovered amount, recovery-to-cost ratio, case cycle time and court admission rate, and propose where to invest next.

What we are looking for

Must have

• Mexican law degree with cédula profesional in good standing.
• Solid experience in mercantile litigation and/or debt recovery, typically 7+ years, including time in a leadership or directive capacity.
• Deep practical knowledge of how collections cases actually move through Mexican courts: what gets admitted, what gets rejected, where time is lost and who decides.
• Credibility in front of judges, court directors and regulators, able to open and hold a serious institutional conversation, not just file cases.
• Genuine openness to changing how legal work is done: comfort with automation, data and process design rather than defending the manual status quo.
• People management experience, able to lead a team, set expectations and hold a performance bar.
• Working proficiency in English (our internal working language for strategy, product and reporting).

Strong plus

• Background as a judge, court clerk or senior court official, with first-hand knowledge of the system from the inside.
• Experience as a director or senior leader at an external legal collections agency or a law firm serving banks.
• Banking or fintech experience, and familiarity with CNBV and CONDUSEF requirements.
• Experience with juicio en línea / electronic filing and with legal-tech tooling.
