Technical Scrum Master / Embedded Software Lead

Quest Defense Systems & Solutions is seeking a Technical Scrum Master and Embedded Software Lead to support an advanced avionics computing platform. The system integrates aircraft data interfaces, communication protocols, video devices, hardware drivers, and embedded software across multiple platforms.
This position combines Agile team leadership with hands-on embedded software expertise in C and Python. You will manage the team’s JIRA backlog, communicate delivery status, and help remove obstacles while contributing to scalable avionics software and I/O infrastructure.
This position can be onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA, or remote in the United States. Relocation assistance may be provided. Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and team coordination.
- Manage the JIRA backlog and communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and team status.
- Partner with technical leads and stakeholders to establish priorities and support timely delivery.
- Design and implement an embedded I/O framework supporting multiple protocols and data interfaces.
- Develop and test avionics software using C and Python.
- Define and maintain data dictionaries, interface specifications, and technical requirements.
- Create, review, and maintain high- and low-level requirements with full traceability.
- Contribute to scalable, reusable, and maintainable software architecture.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of embedded software development or testing experience.
- Experience as a Scrum Master, technical lead, or team lead in a software environment.
- Strong embedded C and Python programming skills.
- Experience developing embedded software in an avionics environment.
- Experience with Python 2.7 and Python 3.12.
- Knowledge of I/O architecture, protocol handling, memory management, and C data structures.
- Experience generating, reviewing, and tracing high- and low-level requirements.
- Ability to manage JIRA backlogs and clearly communicate team status.
- Strong initiative, organizational skills, and the ability to learn quickly.
Preferred / Differentiating Skills:
- Experience with LynxOS, VxWorks, Makefiles, NXP T2080 processors, DOORS, Trace32, socket programming, and Python concurrency.
- Experience interfacing with hardware or developing device drivers.
- Familiarity with avionics and video protocols, including ARINC 429, ARINC 818, MIL-STD-1553, AFDX, CAN, SPI, and UART.
- Experience designing non-volatile storage using EEPROM, flash, or NVRAM.
- Knowledge of persistent and transient logging, rollover, retention policies, and log transport mechanisms.
- Familiarity with CI/CD toolchains, configuration management, and software verification.
- Experience integrating systems across multiple platforms and configuring network communications.
- Experience with dynamic resolution 2D or 3D video systems.
- Ability to think strategically and design reusable software frameworks.
- Experience adopting and/or integrating emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, digital assistants) into day-to-day operations for continuous improvement.
