Job Description

The Engineering Technician supports semiconductor test operations involving automated test equipment (ATE), wafer probers, handlers, and associated test instrumentation. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with probers and testers, strong troubleshooting capability, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams to maintain high-quality, high-efficiency test operations. The role also contributes to continuous improvement of test processes and equipment performance. 

Business context 

Our test operations organization supports new product introduction (NPI), engineering sample evaluation, and production test readiness for advanced Analog, Power, MCU, and EP semiconductor products. This position is key to dependable test cell operation, data generation for engineering analysis, and smooth coordination with suppliers, cross-functional engineering teams, and production support groups. 

Key Responsibilities 

Test cell operations 

  • Support small-volume engineering sample and low-volume production programs. 

  • Set up, dock, and undock ATE systems with probers and handlers according to daily engineering and production needs. 

  • Perform device-level testing manually using ATE and laboratory test equipment. 

Equipment troubleshooting and debug 

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot handlers, probers, and testers, coordinating with Renesas engineers and vendors as needed to restore operation. 

  • Debug ATE hardware, including load boards, probe cards, and socketed test fixtures. 

  • Identify intermittent test board performance issues and escalate to engineering for root-cause resolution. 

Data collection 

  • Collect engineering data using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, multimeters, and basic semiconductor diagnostic tools. 

Maintenance, calibration, and compliance 

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and calibration support for ATE, handlers, probers, and other test equipment. 

  • Maintain calibration records and PM logs to support ISO-9001 audits. 

  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements. 

Qualifications

Education 

  • Bachelor / Associate of Science (AS) degree or equivalent in EE, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering 

Experience 

  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience testing on ATE systems. 

  • Proficiency with wafer probers and handlers, including setup and operation. 

  • Hardware inventory management system 

Technical skills 

  • Good knowledge of circuit design and troubleshooting. 

  • Understanding of basic semiconductor test flows and of industry test standards. 

  • Soldering skills. 

  • Basic proficiency with MS Word and Excel. Python scripting will be a plus. 

Professional skills 

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to take on challenging technical tasks. 

  • Skilled with documentation; excellent verbal and written communication, including with engineers and cross-functional support teams. 

  • Self-motivated and conscientious; able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. 

  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.

Additional Information

The expected annual pay range for this position is 35.00-45.00/hr. This position is also eligible for bonus opportunities. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
