Field Technician Tailings
We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Field Technician to join the Infrastructure Department. In this role, you will provide safe, accurate, and cost-effective field technical and survey support for Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction, monitoring, and related earthworks activities by delivering reliable survey measurements, field staking, construction guidance, and QA/QC assistance to ensure works are completed in accordance with design requirements, operational priorities, and safety standards.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Conduct daily field surveys for TSF construction, including measurements for dam raises, berms, slopes, crest and toe levels, drainage works, earthworks quantities, and construction progress.
Perform survey set-out and construction control, establishing alignment, crest lines, toe lines, berms, drainage channels, and other design features, while installing and maintaining survey pegs, stakes, reference points, and benchmarks.
Carry out as-built surveys and provide accurate field data on coordinates, elevations, quantities, alignment, and construction progress to the Tailings, Survey, Construction, and Engineering teams.
Support field QA/QC activities with consultants, including verification of construction layers, lift thickness, elevations, slopes, alignment, and compliance with approved drawings and design requirements.
Collaborate with consultants, supervisors, and Tailings Engineers during field inspections, test locations, verification activities, audits, and consultant-led inspections, and support the investigation of field conditions against approved designs.
Identify and report deviations and unsafe or abnormal conditions, promptly notifying supervisors and supporting corrective actions where required to maintain construction quality and safety.
Support TSF monitoring activities, including locating and checking instrumentation points, survey monuments, monitoring stations, piezometers, settlement markers, and seepage monitoring locations, while maintaining clear and accurate field records.
Maintain survey equipment, field tools, and assigned vehicles in safe and serviceable condition, ensuring equipment is available and fit for daily field surveying and TSF construction activities.
The ideal candidate will have:
Technical Higher Secondary Education or a NATIN Diploma in Mining, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, or a related technical field.
At least 2 years of relevant experience preferable in mining industry.
Working knowledge of computer programs (ideally Excel, AutoCAD, Global Mapper)
Valid drivers’ license
Willingness to work in Brokopondo on a rotational schedule of 14 days of work followed by 7 days break.
Good communication and interpersonal skills in Dutch and English.
If selected, you will be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (“Bewijs van Goed Gedrag”). Please initiate the request at your respective District Commissariat.
