Job Description

As an HR Advisor, Employee Engagement & Labor Relations at Rosebel Gold Mines N.V., you will play a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between the company and its employees. Your primary responsibilities will include handling employee grievances, conduct investigations, and provide guidance on labor laws, resolve workplace conflicts, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Promote sound labor relations with the union representing Rosebel employees and provide advice on appropriate corrective and preventive actions to maintain a positive and productive working relationship.

  • Investigate and evaluate union and employee complaints, grievances, and disputes, conducting objective assessments to determine their validity and recommending appropriate resolutions.

  • Manage disciplinary matters by conducting thorough investigations and providing advice and recommendations in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA), Code of Conduct (COC), company policies, and applicable local legislation.

  • Support collective bargaining and labor negotiations, including preparation for and participation in negotiations related to collective labor agreements and other employee relations matters.

  • Manage attendance and termination cases, including investigating and analyzing causes of employee absenteeism and voluntary/involuntary terminations, and recommending appropriate corrective or disciplinary actions.

  • Represent RGM in external labor-related proceedings, including Dismissal Board hearings and meetings with the Ministry of Labor and other relevant government or regulatory agencies.

  • Provide HR policy and legal guidance on day-to-day employee management, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, the CLA, COC, and HR policies, while partnering with the Legal Department when required to minimize legal risks.

  • Manage complex employee relations matters and grievances, conducting effective, thorough, and impartial investigations and providing sound advice to management on appropriate corrective, preventive, and resolution actions.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in labor law or human resources management.

  • In-depth understanding of the application of employment-related legislation and various policies and procedures regulating employment conditions, workplace conflict, and resolution.

  • At least 5 years’ labor relations experience working in a unionized environment.

  • Professionalism and discretion to maintain confidential information.

  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, charts, and formulas and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Good negotiating skills; conflict resolution skills; labor relations legislative interpreting skills; project management skills; group facilitation skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, proven problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadline.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English, Mandarin language is an asset.

  • Willingness to work at the Rosebel Gold Mines site, primarily in Brokopondo, on a rotational schedule of five (5) consecutive working days (Monday to Friday), followed by two (2) consecutive days off, in accordance with operational requirements.

  • If selected, you will be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (“Bewijs van Goedgedrag”). Please initiate the request at your respective District Commissariat.

Working Conditions – HR Advisor

The HR Advisor, Employee Engagement & Labor Relations works across both office and operational environments at Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. The role requires frequent interaction with employees, supervisors, managers, union representatives, contractors, government authorities, and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Primarily based at the Rosebel Mine Site in Brokopondo, with regular travel between the mine site and Paramaribo as required by business and employee relations needs.

  • Works a standard 5 days on / 2 days off (Monday to Friday), 12 hours per day schedule, with flexibility to work additional hours when required to address employee relations matters, operational priorities, meetings, investigations, or urgent business needs.

  • Regularly visits operational areas, including departments, workshops, processing plants, offices, and contractor work areas, to engage with employees and management, assess workplace matters, conduct investigations, and provide HR support.

  • Participates in employee engagement activities, union meetings, grievance discussions, disciplinary meetings, consultation sessions, and other labor relations initiatives, which may occasionally require attendance outside normal working hours.

  • May be exposed to mining site conditions, including dust, noise, heat, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions during operational and field activities.

  • Required to comply fully with all Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), security, and site access requirements, including the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering designated operational areas.

  • The role requires the ability to manage multiple complex employee relations, labor relations, disciplinary, grievance, attendance, and compliance matters simultaneously, often under tight deadlines and changing operational priorities.

  • Occasional travel, weekend work, public holiday work, or extended working hours may be required to support urgent employee relations matters, investigations, union engagements, disciplinary proceedings, Dismissal Board hearings, meetings with government authorities, or other operational requirements.
