Junior Automation and Control Specialist

We are looking for a motivated Junior Automation and Controls Specialist to support the maintenance and optimization of automation equipment at Rosebel Gold Mines. Under the supervision of the Automation and Controls Specialist, you will assist in troubleshooting and provide technical support to the Automation and Instrumentation technicians, ensuring efficient operations of our control systems.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Maintain and troubleshoot automation and control systems, including PLC networks, hardware and software, HMI systems, instrumentation, and related control equipment to support reliable plant operations.

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial communication networks, including IP, fiber, copper, and DeviceNet networks, ensuring proper configuration, connectivity, performance, and documentation.

• Support PLC panel design and installation, including panel building, wiring layouts, hardware configuration, and related technical requirements.

• Maintain and support HMI and control system platforms, including backing up and restoring local HMI systems and navigating and supporting the AVEVA System Platform.

• Maintain and troubleshoot fire and safety control systems, including the Fike server-based fire system, and ensure associated automation and control documentation remains accurate and up to date.

• Monitor instrumentation and automation performance using appropriate diagnostic tools, identify potential issues, and provide timely technical support and recommendations.

• Provide frontline technical support to A&I technicians, Maintenance, Production, and Engineering teams, assisting with daily process and instrumentation troubleshooting while applying strong safety practices in the mining environment.

• Analyze real-time and historical process data and collaborate with control room operators, metallurgists, and technicians to resolve operational issues, identify improvement opportunities, and support continuous improvement while staying current with developments in automation and control technologies.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Control, Electrical, Electronic, or Software Engineering.

• Minimum 1 year of experience as an Automation Specialist in a mining environment.

• Knowledge of PLC hardware and fault finding, cyber security, and threat mitigation practices.

• Demonstrated use of PLC programming languages (Ladder, Function Block, Structured Language).

• Familiarity with ISA Alarm Management and various control and automation software.

• Proficiency with platforms such as EcoStruxure, Aveva System Platform (Wonderware Archestra), RSLogix5000, and others.

• Hands-on experience with hardware packages such as Rockwell PLC, Quantum Unity processors, ABB REF/RET/REM relays, and general mining instrumentation.

• Good written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English, Mandarin language is an asset.

• Willingness to work in Brokopondo on a rotational schedule of 14 days of work followed by 7 days break.

• If selected, you will be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (“Bewijs van Goedgedrag”). Please initiate the request at your respective District Commissariat.
