Pouako | ECE Registered Teacher
Help our tamariki grow strong in who they are
Picture a tamaiti confidently leading karakia, naming their maunga, or singing a waiata they learned at Puna. That’s what we’re here for. At Te Puna Manawa o Whakaue, ancestral culture and identity are woven through every day, so our tamariki grow up connected to te ao Māori and proud of where they come from.
About us
Guided by a dedicated team of Poumahi, we embody and uphold the values of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, pono me te tika, and mana motuhake in all that we do.
Te Taumata is a leadership organisation established by and for Ngāti Whakaue, working across education, te reo Māori, housing development and social wellbeing. Today, our work reaches hundreds of whānau, rangatahi, tamariki, and kōhungahunga through high-quality, whānau-centred programmes and services.
The role
We’re looking for a registered Pouako to join our Puna, a bilingual environment where te reo Māori is the language of choice.
In this role you’ll bring the Ngāti Whakaue curriculum to life alongside Te Whāriki, planning age-appropriate learning that follows the interests of our tamariki, along with regular excursions linked to kaupapa. You’ll keep portfolios and learning stories current and rich with whānau voice, and make sure whānau feel informed, confident and welcome.
You’ll also play your part in keeping Puna safe and running well, looking after the wellbeing of tamariki, whānau and kaimahi, and making sure all the requirements that come with a quality early learning centre are met.
What you’ll bring
Essential:
- A recognised ECE teaching qualification and current Teaching Council registration with a practising certificate
- Sound knowledge of Te Whāriki, and confidence with documentation, appraisal and PLD to Teaching Council and ERO standards
- An understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and a commitment to growing te reo in a bilingual setting
- A warm, professional approach and a genuine team player
- A current full NZ Driver Licence
