Job Description

The Relationship Director – Healthcare will act as the senior point of contact for a portfolio of healthcare sector borrowers, many of which hold large, complex loan structures. The role holder is responsible for the full relationship lifecycle post-drawdown: monitoring borrower performance, identifying risk early, structuring further lending and covenant solutions, and ensuring an excellent customer experience across the loan book. The Relationship Director will also provide oversight and direction to Associate Relationship Directors and Analysts supporting the portfolio, ensuring the quality of financial analysis, MI, and reporting that underpins credit decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting and presenting to senior board members.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, including borrowers, PE sponsors, and professional advisers.
  • Reviewing borrower performance, including conducting site visits, trend analysis, and comparison of actuals versus forecasts — identifying the causes of variances and their impact on liquidity and ongoing debt serviceability.
  • Identifying additional funding opportunities with existing borrowers.
  • Evaluating, managing, and processing requests for further lending, loan covenant waivers, loan variations, consents, and forbearance, in line with ThinCats policies.
  • Overseeing the accurate review and input of financial information and covenant calculations, ensuring quality assurance checks are carried out on all data provided by borrowers.
  • Preparing and reviewing reports and proposals for credit and legal teams relating to breaches, waivers, and consents.
  • Maximising data input and effective use of nCino across the portfolio.
  • Maintaining loan status data to demonstrate ongoing compliance of each borrower across the loan portfolio.
  • Building strong internal relationships across Borrower Solutions, Business Development, Credit, and Legal teams to ensure early identification of portfolio risk and a seamless handover of relationships post-drawdown.
  • Providing guidance and oversight to Associate Relationship Directors and Analysts, ensuring consistency and rigour in borrower monitoring, MI, and lending reports.
  • Reviewing customer projections throughout the lifecycle of the loan and ensuring timely escalation of material issues.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

  • Accounting or banking qualification essential.
  • Sound relevant experience gained in corporate banking, professional services, or a financial institution, in a senior relationship management role.
  • Experience of working with borrowers in the Healthcare sector
  • Proven experience working with borrowers backed by PE investment and managing large, complex loans.
  • Strong understanding of leveraged finance deals, including enhanced risk profiles and the role of the PE investor.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow) and loan and security documentation.
  • Confident in interpreting loan documentation, covenant definitions and terminology, and calculating financial covenants.
  • Experience and understanding of debt finance / asset finance and the wider financial services environment.
  • Ability to undertake financial modelling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends, variances, and emerging risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, both internally and with external stakeholders.
  • Well networked within the healthcare and wider lending market.
  • Robust, organised, calm, logical, and confident under pressure.
  • Ability to adapt to rapid change.
  • Leadership skills beneficial, with the ability to guide and develop junior team members, though not compulsory
