Job Description

Scheduler – Leeds

Are you interested in planning, coordination and environmental monitoring? This could be your opportunity to excel as a Scheduler, playing a vital role in supporting SOCOTEC’s continued success and helping deliver essential water quality monitoring programmes.

As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We’re looking for a dedicated Scheduler to join our Water Quality team and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride. If you’re highly organised, enjoy problem-solving and thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

We are seeking a proactive, reliable and flexible Scheduler to support the planning and coordination of field-based water quality monitoring and sampling activities. This role offers remote working, with occasional days in our Leeds office. You’ll work closely with field teams, Project Managers, Water Quality management, clients and laboratories to ensure work is scheduled efficiently and delivered within required timescales.

You’ll be responsible for creating work packages, coordinating field team schedules and routes, preparing site information and ensuring that access arrangements, permits and traffic management requirements are in place before fieldwork begins. The role requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while adapting to changing requirements. Experience in scheduling, databases or spreadsheets would be beneficial, alongside an interest in water quality, environmental monitoring or utilities.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Planning and scheduling water quality monitoring and sampling activities across client projects.

  • Creating work packages, daily schedules and efficient routes for field-based teams to maximise resources and minimise unnecessary travel.

  • Preparing maps, site information, trackers and field documentation to ensure teams have the information they need to carry out their work.

  • Coordinating site access, permissions, traffic management and permits ahead of scheduled fieldwork.

  • Liaising with field teams to communicate schedules, site requirements and any changes to planned activities.

  • Coordinating monitoring and sampling activities, equipment deployment and follow-up visits.

  • Supporting urgent and emergency sampling requirements where necessary.

  • Maintaining accurate databases, spreadsheets, maps, trackers and project information.

  • Working closely with Project Managers, Water Quality management, laboratories and clients to support the successful delivery of monitoring programmes.

  • Monitoring progress, resolving scheduling and logistical issues, and escalating concerns where appropriate.

  • Supporting new project set-up, ongoing project administration and continuous improvements to planning systems and processes.

  • Working in accordance with SOCOTEC’s health, safety, quality, environmental and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

To be a successful Scheduler, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with a methodical approach to managing multiple activities and deadlines.

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

  • Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Access, with experience using databases, spreadsheets or scheduling systems.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.

  • A logical and proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to respond to changing priorities.

  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team.

  • Flexibility and resilience when working under pressure and managing competing demands.

  • Good geographical awareness and the ability to plan efficient routes for field-based teams.

  • A positive ‘Can Do’ attitude and a commitment to quality, safety and confidentiality.

  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above, or equivalent.

If you’re an organised and motivated individual who enjoys bringing people, schedules and resources together, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to important environmental monitoring programmes. Join SOCOTEC and play a key role in helping our Water Quality team deliver safe, efficient and reliable services to our clients.
