Job Description

You will join Statkraft’s Continental Intraday Trading organisation, where we develop and operate the algorithmic trading platform and specialised algorithms used to balance renewable generation in short-term power markets. Working closely with traders, dispatchers and market specialists, you will contribute across the algorithm lifecycle—from analysis and backtesting to implementation and live operation.

In this role, you will:

• Design, develop and improve trading algorithms for intraday markets and the balancing of renewable portfolios.
• Write clean, structured and maintainable code, supported by appropriate testing, documentation and peer review.
• Work along the full algorithm lifecycle—from market analysis, modelling and backtesting to deployment, monitoring and performance improvement.
• Contribute to the architecture, reliability and scalability of our algorithmic trading platform.
• Adapt algorithms to support business expansion in Spain, France and Italy, reflecting local market design and operational requirements.
• Work closely with traders, dispatchers and market specialists to translate commercial needs into robust technical solutions.
• Use market data, live performance and operational feedback to improve trading outcomes and contribute to team deliveries.

As Intraday Power is trading continuously, 24/7 at 365 days a year, you will be part of a business hours day-shift system. You will be expected to assist through daytime standby duties on weekends or public holidays on an as-need basis, preferably from home. Special situations might require presence in the office.

Qualifications

• We are looking for a quantitative professional who combines software development skills with commercial curiosity and an interest in European power markets. The depth of experience will determine whether you join at Analyst or Senior Analyst level. You should bring:
• A strong university degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Quantitative Finance or a comparable quantitative discipline.
• Relevant experience in quantitative development, algorithmic trading, energy trading or a related environment; deeper professional experience is expected for the Senior Analyst level.
• Strong Python skills and the ability to write structured, tested and maintainable code; experience with Git and code review is an advantage.
• A sound foundation in statistics, time-series analysis, optimisation or data-driven modelling, together with an interest in applying machine learning and modern AI tools to trading problems.
• An understanding of short-term power trading and European market mechanisms, or a strong motivation to develop it; experience in Spain, France or Italy is an advantage.
• A structured, quality-focused way of working and the ability to connect technical solutions with commercial needs.
• Strong communication skills and fluent English; German, Spanish, French or Italian is an advantage.
